I'm looking at results, sorry he's not traditional, but he got results, I gladly match him up against most teams #3

In fact the Indians are the only team I see with a clear advantage when it comes to their 3rd best starter

Not trying to bag on the guy because I do like him, I just think some ranger fans have a little too much love for the Colbra.

He's been solid, but has a career 4.62 era for the Rangers. Before getting hurt this year, he was at 3.21, so there was a good chance that he would have reverted to his mean as the season progressed. Lets call him what he is: a solid pitcher that should probably keep your team in most games.

Looking at other playoff teams' probable #3s:
Houston - Doug Fister
Toronto - JA Happ
Cleveland - Danny Salazar
Baltimore - Kevin Gausman
Boston - Rick Porcello

Given the choice, the only one of that group I might take Lewis over if I had my choice is Gausman, and even then they have similar stats and Gausman is younger and throws harder. If any of those are hurt currently, my mistake, I didn't bother to check their current health status.

I take Lewis over either of those guys
I only mean if Colby has physical setbacks in his return from injury. Then I may be on the waiver wire at that point. Just saying there are options out there in that event.

Houston - Doug Fister (3.46 career ERA)
Toronto - JA Happ (4.02)
Cleveland - Danny Salazar (3.48)
Baltimore - Kevin Gausman (4.21)
Boston - Rick Porcello (4.30)
Detroit - Michael Fulmer - (2.50)

I don't give a damn what his career ERA is, there are lots of factors that come into play there, namely health, we're talking about game 3 this year, not next year or last year, Gausman being younger has no relevance on this year, if you asked who I would rather have long term, yeah its Gausman, but if its game 3 ths year, whole nother story

I take him as he was before the injury over any of those guys except Salazar and maybe Fulmer

Expand the view, I included those guys' career ERAs as well

Unfortunately I don't think Lewis is back before September, so it might force their hand before that

Beltran, a switch hitter, has a .816 OPS as a LHB, and a 1.045 OPS as a RHB.... that's awesome

I'm sorry @Tharvot , but Colby is exactly who you want as your #3 in the playoffs. If you can't see that you're missing the forest for the trees.

LHPs
1-Choo (RF) ---- Once healthy
2-Desmond(CF)
3-Beltre(3B)
4-Beltran(DH)
5-Lucroy(C)
6-Odor(2B)
7-Rua(LF)
8-Moreland(1B)
9-Andrus (SS)

RHPs
1-Choo (RF) ---- Once healthy
2-Desmond(CF)
3-Mazara(LF)
4-Beltre(3B)
5-Beltran(DH)
6-Lucroy(C)
7-Odor(2B)
8-Moreland(1B)
9-Andrus (SS)

I'd platoon Rua & Mazara, and let Profar get everyday ABs in AAA, with Beltran on board, there's no everyday spot for him, yes this is contingent on Choo's health, so its still a crapshoot

With the everything else going on, I could tolerate Profar and Beltran alternating in LF til Choo was healthy

Another way to look at the Beltran acquisition...... JD picked him up to replace Fielders sorry ass and........ Insurance for Choo because he can't stay healthy.
