Rangers purchase the contract of Michael Roth. Option Luke Jackson to Frisco.

Jackson wasn't going to be available for several days anyway, plus, he has no business being with the big club to begin with.

I guess this makes Chi-Chi the long man?

I was just kind of surprised they sent him to Frisco instead of Round Rock.

Good thing we got Hamels going today. Would be great if he could get us a complete game.

Happy Independence day weekend everyone!

  • The Rangers had discussions with the Padres about right-handed reliever Fernando Rodney before San Diego traded him to Miami, but Rosenthal opines that Texas needs a left-handed bullpen option more. In addition to their interest in relievers, the Rangers are also in the market for a young, high-end starter and would be willing to part with just about anyone on their roster if the right deal came along.

Basically, Fernandes.

Id love to have him but I think it would take every prospect we have in the system and I don't think the Marlins are gonna give him up

Only other pitchers who might be worth giving up a significant return for and might be available would be Sale and I'm still kind of bearish on him.

Rangers' Ryan Rua: Breaks out of slump with two-hit effort Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Rua went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs in Saturday's 17-5 loss to the Twins.

He was one of the few bright spots for the Rangersin the blowout defeat, although his fourth-inning homer did come when Texas was on the wrong end of an 11-1 deficit. Regardless, it was a positive development for Rua, who'd gone 1-for-14 over the last seven games in which he'd recorded at least one at-bat. The 26-year-old is now slashing .284/.363/.486 on the season.

Rangers' Michael Roth: Contract purchased from Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Roth's contract was purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

The Rangers opened up a 40-man spot for Roth by moving Colby Lewis (strained lat muscle) to the 60-day DL, and the 26-year-old left-hander will replace Luke Jackson, who was demoted to Double-A Frisco in a corresponding move, on the 25-man roster. Roth compiled a 2.66 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 81.1 innings while working primarily as a starter at Triple-A, but the Rangers plan on using him as a long reliever while he remains in the big leagues.

Rangers' Luke Jackson: Optioned to Double-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Jackson was optioned to Double-A Frisco on Sunday.

Jackson had a horrendous outing in Saturday's loss to the Twins, giving up six runs on five hits and two walks over 1.2 innings to inflate his season ERA to 10.80. Until he shows an ability to generate less hard contact in the minors, don't expect him to be in line for another promotion to the big leagues.

Rangers' Chi Chi Gonzalez: Expected to make another start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Manager Jeff Banister said Sunday that Gonzalez is expected to make another start Thursday against the Twins, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Gonzalez's hold on a rotation spot appeared tenuous after he failed to get out of the first inning during Saturday's loss to the Twins, giving up four runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks while recording only two outs. Some poor defense from his mates contributed to Gonzalez's demise, so the Rangers will give him another shot against those same Twins to prove that his last outing was just a fluke. While better results can probably be expected a second time around, Gonzalez doesn't profile as an especially appealing fantasy option given his lack of swing-and-miss stuff. He accrued a 3.90 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 30:32 K:BB ratio over 67 innings at Triple-A Round Rock prior to his promotion to the big leagues.

I wouldn't want to give up more than we did for Hamels to get Sale, which is likely what it would take

I'm a little surprised and disappointed they aren't going to give Roth a chance to earn his time up.

Gonzalez has spit-the-bit on more than one occasion.

And Banny has him on the bench today. He should be playing first and Mitch should be sitting.
