John W Stanton unofficially his replacement. That makes it even bigger.

Pretty sure this would be eliminating the last big hiring decision made under Yamauchi influence. I wonder if the minority owners (Stanton included) force him out?

Why is that? Positive or negative for the M's?
I would think it's positive. It represents the removal of a big piece of the Yamauchi/Nintendo influence, and inserts a WA native with ties to Microsoft.

As much crap as I give Yamauchi/Nintendo's absentee majority ownership, I do recognize that they're the main reason the team wasn't moved to somewhere on the East Coast back in the 90s.

This change feels like a good thing to me, though.

Imminent ownership changes will result in CEO Howard Lincoln’s resignation or retirement from the Mariners, sources tell 710 ESPN Seattle’s Mike Salk and Brock Huard. The information has not been confirmed by the team.

John Stanton, who has been a minority owner since 2000, is expected to become the new point person for the ownership group, according to Salk.

Lincoln, 76, has been the organization’s CEO since September 1999, overseeing two playoff teams in 16 seasons, including the 2001 Mariners that won an MLB record 116 games in the regular season. The Mariners have had seven winning seasons under Lincoln, last winning over 90 games in 2003.

He’s been credited with the team’s expansion into Japan, a market from which they’ve signed star players including Ichiro Suzuki, Hisashi Iwakuma and Kazuhiro Sasaki.

In addition to his time with the Mariners, Lincoln was the chairman and CEO of Nintendo of America from 1994-2000. Nintendo of America has been the majority owner of the Mariners since 1992, and Lincoln played a role in the formation of the ownership group that bought the team from a group headed by Jeff Smulyan.

Lincoln previously was an attorney in Seattle and joined Nintendo in 1983 after representing the company in a successful lawsuit defense in 1981.

According to KIRO 7, the team will be holding a press conference this afternoon, presumably to address this.

What a great year this is turning out to be, Trump will be our next president, Hitlery will hopefully be behind bars and Howard Lincoln is finally gone!

Now we just need a Mariners world series followed by another Seahawks superbowl.

And so the two headed troll of Howie and Chuck is finally gone. There were times where I really wasn't sure I'd ever see it happen. This is a great day for Mariners baseball.

A lot of us have said for a long time that this team would never succeed with Nintendo as our majority owner.

We'll finally get to see if that's right, I guess.

I do not believe them when they say that ownership has never taken any profits....
