Any guesses on who the 25th man will be (Maybin's replacement)? You'd think it would be an outfielder, but with both Aviles and Romine capable of playing the outfield....I guess it does not have to be. Collins, Bernard, Moya (blah), Jones, Inge, 2 backup catchers?*

You will be rewarded for your positive posts and given negatives on your bad ones iffy... i am going to take you back to elementary school... as most elderly people need to be treated like little children after a certain age.

If you want positives... you need to earn them.

Could be Holaday, but could be Tyler Collins if both Romine & Aviles are pegged to make the 25-man at his expense. CBSsports.com noted it could also be Wynton Bernard, as he is a more natural center fielder than Collins.

Who gives a fuck about this....grow up

Learn to accept it, burf. I was "In" with Vice for a brief period of time. His goal is to dominate and take over any sports board he is on. And that is a quote! But he is not a fool. He knows when to back off, when to kiss a little ass, and will pal up to some people - if he thinks it will help HIM. This Tiger board, being small, was an easy takeover...he buddy-ed up to Howie, probably the most active poster, and while butting heads with broncosmitty on occasion, he leaves him alone, due to his seniority and ''friends''. Make no mistake....he wants to control this board and dictate who talks and what is or isn't discussed. He wanted to do that on the AL Central Talk thread....but major SportsHoopla veterans came along and squashed him. I am sure he will try over there again. (He may have created another secret site where he and dougplayer are planning how to destroy that thread....like he did the CBS boards!!! LOL)

Of course, how anyone could have listened to two straight years of Vice informing everyone that the Royals were totally inept and then accepting anything he says as having the slightest credibility is beyond my grasp. I suppose, today, people listen to the guy that yells the loudest....thus: Donald Trump and miamivice! So maybe I am a stupid old man and I'm not catching on. LOL.

It won't be Jones. Lol

I was told that Inge was playing catch and taking grounders at the Gibraltar Trade Center - between jersey sales!

As for Jacoby going north, he plans to wear his darkest shades and go by his middle name of Mylon. No one will recognize him, dude.

I can't believe you took the time to type all that... You would think your old ass would value each grain of sand you have left in the hour glass.

Interesting comment by Jamie Samuelson on the radio this morning. He was talking about the Lions signing Johnson Bademosi from the Browns, considered one of the NFL's top special teams players, and giving him a two-year, $4M contract. He said "good football teams DEVELOP special teams players," so they don't have to waste money signing them away from another team. He then likened it to the Tigers signing middle relievers as free agents, again saying that good baseball teams develop middle relievers in the minors, so they don't have to shop for other teams' top middle relievers every year.

I think he was dead-on.

I totally agree with this. I think there is a value to each position... You have to spend your money correctly. Some positions are going to cost more.

In baseball your top 3 starters, your closer, and your top 4 hitters. Should be at least 70% of your payroll. That is 8 players. The rest should be filled by low cost talent your team's system produces. Middle relief, and the bottom of your order should not be big parts of your payroll. In my opinion... you shouldn't spend big money on a catcher either as they have a tendency to have a short life span like relievers.

Football is the same way. There are certain positions you just shouldn't spend money on. RB, LB, Special Teams, Kickers... You shouldn't be investing big time money on these guys. The majority of a teams money should be on the Dline, Oline, DB and QB. Even WR is a waste of money long term IMO. You should have young athletic low cost guys from your draft running and catching the ball. The teams that have a system and can keep producing the same results with cheap young talent in football win... the ones that have to pay for it are the ones that don't.

I don't have an issue with using free agency to fill holes if you are close to contending, but the focus of any sports team should be development through the draft... whether its the MLB, NFL, or NBA.

I still don't understand why Ilitch doesn't spend more on international prospects. The Tigers could have rebuilt the farm even when they lost draft picks for signing free agents all those years if they would have just been willing to spend big on the main international prospects and pay the price. It made no sense to me why they just sat there instead of using the international market to make up for the lost prospects. That to me was the worst move DD made when he was here... The farm was bad because they traded talent away and lost draft picks... and instead of spending $10 mil and getting a few top end international guys to fill the holes.. they just sat back and let the farm struggle.

Hopefully Avila wakes up and realizes that the two lost picks (2nd rd and 3rd rd) this year can be replaced if they just spend a little more this year on international prospects and take the penalty.

Hated to see Fulmer get roughed up today. IMO, he is the Tiger's depth in starting pitching. I have no faith in Greene, and while Boyd might come around, I don't see his ceiling as anywhere near Fulmer's.

Now Vice....don't go all "Hernan Perez" over this kid. If he works out as a good middle of the rotation starter for Detroit....I'll be happy.
