Putting Miggy at 3b, against Miami, for a game or two isn't a big deal (not a big drop in defense) except you have to be concerned with Miggy and/or VMart getting hurt. BUT...if VMart is hot at the end of spring training....I'd consider putting Cabrera at 3B and VMart at 1B for a couple of games. Yet, maybe Castellanos has a hot spring and all this is just meaningless speculation.

I am considering giving Castellanos the nickname "Rock" - for his glove work. Rock Castellanos. Maybe it will help him turn into a 25-30 homerun hitter? Maybe then he changes it to 'Rocky'.

That would be a fitting if he didn't have an above average fielding percentages at the position.. 5th in the AL ( better than Adrien Beltre and Manny Machado among many others...)

Call him rock because he doesn't move... that would be a better description... His range is what effects his defense.. not his hands or arm.

I would agree. He doesn't botch routine plays any more than most MLB third basemen, as his error totals and fielding pct. show. His problems are slow reaction and range, which account for his below-average DRS numbers.

I'd be happy if Detroit just put one of Brooks Robinson's old gloves down at third. Defense might improve. :) :) :)

Just a wild thought.....IF Sanchez' arm is kaput, do the Tigers go to their backup plan of Greene or Boyd and hope Fulmer shines in AAA? Or...do they consider a trade? (Iffy is still considering a trade of Iglesias!!!)

Lincecum hasn't been a league average starter since 2011... And those numbers are in the NL.

His highest ERA+ since 2011 is 91... league average is 100. There is a reason nobody is running out to sign him.. he hasn't been good in half a decade... his control is gone.

Yeah, you're right. If Sanchez goes down...Greene and Boyd will carry Detroit to the WS.

Boyd is more likely to be league average than Lincecum... Unless you are going to create a time machine and get the Lincecum from 2011... Boyd and Greene are every bit as likely to succeed... Neither of them have walk rates in the 4's.

LOL @ iffy suggesting that Lincecum and his 4.13 ERA and 1.48 WHIP from last year (more injury plagued than Sanchez is as well) is going to carry anyone to a WS at this point. Lincecum hasn't been a legit starter in a LONG TIME. Seriously.. look at the last 4 seasons he has put up... they make Mike Pelfrey look like a fucking stud.

Matt Boyd hopefully won't be a major leaguer this year. (Unless Big Al trades him.)

Maybe next year, when he's 26....

I am not expecting the world from the guy.. but his minor league stats suggest he is a hell of a lot better than he was last year in the MLB... you don't have bb/k ratio's, a sub 1 whip, and a career ERA of 2.48 in the minors if you don't have some legit talent.
