The Browns, Texans, Chiefs and Rams all could afford to pay him $20 million annually. And you have to realize, on a long term deal his cap hit over the next two seasons likely WONT be $20 million. If we trans tag him, there are teams who could write him a deal we might not want to match and still not go crazy. I agree, if we give him the non exclusive tag, a team MIGHT not want to part with two first round picks.
But the two firsts is just a starting point. Teams HAVE gotten franchise players for less. Say Manning does retire, would every one be drooling over the 31st pick and an undetermined first rounder next year also realizing we would basically be using one of those picks on a rookie QB??
Good pts, but again I just get the feeling that this is just a high stakes game of chicken. Given your concerns it is likely that they will Exclusive franchise tag Cousins while they work out a deal.
