Oh ye of little faith.

I've seen enough change in the past year to buy into the FO getting this right.

Agree. Why do people (especially Redskins fans) want to keep lumping the current Redskins organization in with the incompetent ones from the past?

Cali,

I will tell you what this means. It means that ESPN made sure that Schefter presented this in such a way that it would fuel hits to their web site and people watching Sportscenter as well as provide conversation for their endless amt of talk shows. Whether there is substance to any of this is irrelevant to them.
Pretty much my take on it.

Per 980 and a conversation with Schefty

They're talking but not negotiating, perceived value being the issue

Not contentious between the 2 parties

Big take is no long term deal by March 1

2 teams he talked to thought Skins would NOT use the franchise tag, he doesn't agree

He thinks the franchise tag is likely to be used

I don't understand this. Why wouldn't the Skins want him on a long term deal? It would be cheaper now. Unless KC's ask must be outrageous.

This seems likely to be the sticking point. Perceived value.

IF that is the case KC must be asking for 20 mil per season which is high. I thought something can be done within the 16-18mil range. How can they be really this far off? SM must of offered him 12-14 which is way too low. I don't see the SKins having much leverage here. Why would they want to use the Franchise tag? its 20 million.

Ever go to a car dealership and haggle with them about the price of a car they wanted to sell real bad and you wanted to buy just as badly?

Likely his agent is starting at least this high, given the increased cap space next year and the open market value for Cuz, who is probably safest bet as a QB FA.

cali if KC's agent is starting that high that would mean the agent thinks the Redskins have no leverage in this deal. I want to know that numbers.

True. So we really don't know who to blame in this situation. IS KC being greedy or SM being cheap.

It's the structure of the deal more than the overall dollar amount that's likely the issue.

The structure should be like Tannehills. That is the deal they should look at.

If you understand dean why are you looking to blame someone? Go back to the car analogy. Dealership wants 28K, you offer 12K. Both offers are ridiculous but you would snap it up if they said okay to your offer of 12K and they would snap it up if you agreed to 28K. You settle for 20K and this is how most negotiations play out. Why blame anyone in the middle of negotiation. They should both start with stupid numbers and then work towards something agreeable.

Carol Maloney and Mike Jones have also tweeted that talks have NOT broken off. Socal may well have hit the nail on the head when he said ESPN might be looking for hits on their website etc. They have decreased in size and revenue a great deal over the last year or two. As well they should.

Cousins might balk at any deal that gives the Redskins an out. This wouldn't necessarily just be for money reasons, but the fact that the Redskins still don't trust him. However meritorious that view may be, Cousins has stated that he wants to be at a place where he's wanted. And a team that's structuring a deal that can provide a trap door after two years may signal that lack of "want" and may be reminiscent of the earlier part of his tenure here where he really was disrespected.
