But I am still scratching my head on why they would be intent on hiring a 47 year old with exactly 5 years of NFL coaching responsibility as a QB coach or Offensive Coordinator whose offense has ranked in the 20s for the last three years. They do one 4 hour interview with the guy and he is now their choice? The guy has worked in exactly one system, and arguably produced only mediocre results everywhere he went.

I am sorry, but this reads like a total homer/buddy hire to me.

Cool, now we'll get to hear your spin from the other side of the fence.

They need to dig deeper IMO. Guys like Matt Patricia, Josh McDaniels. Maybe the college route. Sumerlin, Shaw, Saban, Meyer. I am not even adverse to poking around at Shanahan, Cowher or Gruden. None of the guys interviewed other than maybe Coughlin look to be in the same league as these nine names I just came up with off the top of my head.

I don't think they want a name. They want a puppet that won't rock the boat on Howie. Just the way things are going to be. Maybe this is what we need so we can get our franchise QB. Peterson, Howie, Bradford #1 overall pick sounds like a plan ;).

My prediction: They'll keep Shurmer to coach the Offense "along" with some tweaks from Doug E Fresh if they hire him as HC. They bring in a solid DC to get us back to the 4-3. Doug comes in as a low responsibility / cheap option as they still have big money committed to Chip.

You may be right, but why not just promote Shurmer then? He wouldn't cost much more. Promote Duce to OC or something.

I can't get excited about Pederson. And I don't get why they don't at least talk to the like of Jackson, Patricia, McDaniels, etc.

i'd lean Shurmer over Pederson if those were my options. Gut feeling.

Maybe they think Pederson would be better with all the other Head Coaching duties where they'd rather just keep Shurmur's responsibilities to the Offense.

A couple articles on Peterson.

Doug Pederson Day

Eagles Wake-Up Call: What They’re Saying About Pederson - Birds 24/7

Dawkins says"Well Doug was a very, very, very smart dude -- like very smart," said Brian Dawkins . "There's a reason why Andy [Reid] brought him here (for that 1999 season) and we all knew it: it was to teach guys the offense. So he's been a coach, he's been teaching for a long time. And obviously the offense began to struggle a little too much and they brought Donovan [McNabb] in, but he was the one that guys leaned on in the huddle, telling guys where to go, this is what you need to do, and so he was the coach on the field. That's the Doug that I remember. That is a great thing: to have football acumen; to be able to talk about the game; to be able to coach; to be able to take it from your head as a player and be able to deliver it to somebody and allow them to receive it themselves and then go ahead and have success with it...
"This is the unknown factor of Doug: can he be a coach that can stand in front of the Philadelphia Eagles team and grab that respect? Does he have that type of personality to do what he needs to do to get guys to buy in, to get in line and stay in line. I'm talking about discipline. I'm talking about the accountability that has been lacking in that locker room...that's where Doug, not concerns me, but that's a question mark."
Former Eagles qb Mike Kafka...."He's a professional and he treats you like that. He's a straight shooter and tells you what it is, whether you're right or wrong, good or bad, he lays it on the table and I think that's appreciated and respected. When a coach can speak straight and tell you when you do things right, he's happy for you and when you do things wrong he's always looking to correct you and get you better. I always respected that...
"I think when you're football smart and you know schemes and you know defenses, I think the hardest part is being able to elaborate to your players. For him, he's made a way to make it simple so that players can play fast and know their assignments and know what to do. It's one thing to have all this knowledge, but to not illustrate it and explain it to people is difficult. And I think he has that. He's always been a great coach and being able to get people to be on the same page and understand the concepts and schemes and what he wants to do."

Do you consider yourself more than half ignorant or more than half stupid?

Peterson talks to Alex Smith through the headset and gives him the plays. Andy said Doug has been calling them more and more as the season has gone on.

Likewise. What has Pederson ever done? I hear Reid wants him to leave anyway, and promote another coach to OC. I hope that Lurie is not blind to this.

He'll promote Brad Childress who is already involved in designing the offense with Andy and Doug.

I heard Doug Pederson did a brilliant job head coaching at Calvary Baptist Academy High School from 2005-2008. Sounds like a winner to me. We should sign DPD's boy Tim Tebow to lead us at QB. Pederson and Tebow FTW!

Brad childress would probably resume the OC duties.
