What everyone seems to miss here is that this is exactly what the NFL wants. 75% of the teams in the NFL are still in the playoffs hunt with a little over 1/4 of the season left to play. Parity is designed to keep more fans interested. The NFCEast, AFCSouth and AFCWest all will likely come down to week 17 games to decide division winners as well as respective wild cards. The League is thrilled to have over half the games in week 17 looking as if they will actually matter in the playoffs picture.

Not sure about the other teams, but in the case of the Redskins a strong finish & possible (shaky) playoff appearance means much more than getting a top 10 pick. Many teams acquire top picks on a regular basis and still remain bad teams. Unlike the NBA - teams don't magically get good in the NFL simply based on one player in all except for a few rare cases.

The Redskins have a new GM & he certainly is guiding them in the rt direction. This year was all about rebuilding so anything positive that occurs moving forward this season is simply a bonus. The culture at Redskins Park is changing dramatically & they are finally showing a knack for acquiring players who make a difference (not simply big names). Over the course of the next few years this could dramatically transfer this team into consistent contenders (while several of the other NFC-E teams get older & less talented).

What assumptions? I made no claims about the Redskins doing anything this season. I only spoke about them doing well in the future & given the track record of SM & the current progress of this team I think that is a pretty good possibility. As for the age of the other teams - please tell me how guys like Romo and Manning will do better as they start to age & try to shake of injuries.

Oh well - I guess as Redskins fans we are never allowed to have hope & must always bow down to Cowboys fans since they know everything. Fair enough.
