Not a bad move, although I see this as more a move to hopefully improve the running game I hope. If we continue to try and pass the ball the way we have, things will go badly.
McCoy was continually inactive on game day so wasting a spot in essence. They were using Tom Compton for the TE sets. Competition and better hands likely.

Good point. But if getting to the playoffs in 2015 results in the same thing or something similar happening in 2016. As it did in 2013 after making the playoffs in 2012. I'd just as soon go 0-6 the rest of the way and get a better pick in the 2016 draft.

Have to disagree. I would like to think that most Redskins fans realize that this was supposed to be a rebuilding year. Even being in the playoff hunt in the last few weeks (even in the crappy NFC-E) would be a huge step forward for this team. The real goal for this team is the future - not this season. Someone like SM will be about the entire draft not just the first few rounds. History shows us that teams that tank & pick in the top 5 of the draft will very likely pick in that same position for the next few years - no thanks.

2012 was a totally different situation (whether you like RG3 or not). It was based on an offense that was not sustainable long term, based on a handful of talented players & thus fragile & consisted of a relatively poor defense that relied on some luck in the turnover area. In addition the Redskins had very little to work with in the subsequent offseason draft (for several years). Consider the draft after that season - all they really are left with from that draft is Reed. Compare that to now where the Redskins have a full contingent of picks & somebody who actually knows how to use them.

I still believe that this team is on track (perhaps at a slower pace) to be a consistent contender in a few years.

So now that we are past that, time to look forward.

My first thought is a rather simplistic one....

If this team cant get up and at least show some fucking fire for the next two games, the GM needs to do one of two things...

1. Cut as many of them as he can and start from scratch
2. Resign.

Curious about your take Shark since you were at the game. On the broadcast the announcers sensed that early in the 3rd QTR the Redskins players were ho hum & appeared to have thrown in the towel. As I stated in another thread - if I verified that to be true w/ certain players I might get rid of them on the spot. With this type of young team striving to improve they should always be fighting for their playing lives. Your thoughts?

Interesting note. Hamm is the only PS player who was on there both last year and this year before being called up. Seems to me opportunity and competition is much more visible this year for younger players. Like that.

Socal.. I was on the Home side of the field, but I also had the spy goggles with me. From the home side, shortly after the bum call and resulting TD a few plays later, the Panthers were up and about and talking shit how the Skins had now given up.

Looking across the field I saw a group of guys who had in fact given up. Instead of walking over to position coaches when they got off the field to look for and accept coaching, most of our guys just went and plopped on the bench to await the next time they had to go out. Usually I have seen the QBs and McVey huddled during the Defense being on the field. Yesterday more often than not it was McVey and Kirk, occasionally Griffin or McCoy looked engaged. But once it was apparent we would lose, the entire team looked like they were watching the clock and just waiting for it to end. Starting the 2nd half, I just didnt see any real fire in any one aside from KC, Reed and maybe Baker. And KC didnt look shaken, but he did sort of look resigned at that point.

Shark - that is a real shame. It kind of looked that way on TV on the Redskins sidelines. However - I figured that perhaps those type of things can be somewhat misleading. All of these players are going to have to challenge themselves to put out full effort regardless of the score and situation if for no other reason than to secure their job.

The worst has to be hearing this latest rant from Hatcher accusing the refs of being against them due to the name change. What a terrible example for younger players. If most of these games were nail biters while I would not agree with his take I could see his pt. However - almost all of these road losses are blowouts that are certainly not the result of bad officiating. I thought that this team was past this type of behavior. Oh well - I guess it takes more than expected to change the culture from the past.

i think a lot of the frustration on this board is the expectations of this team are very skewed

you have posters talking about how talented this team is blah blah blah , when in fact we arent there yet

2 things that are wrong on defense is
1) tackling is dog shit , period , end of story
2) with cbs like culliver , breeland hall and blackmon , we should be in press coverage more often and stop conceding 7 yds off the ball

right now SM is seeing exactly what he has and i expect the next draft will address some shortcomings

Agree but I will never really begrudge fans for being frustrated. It is tough rooting for this team & anybody under the age of 25 who roots for this team should probably be compensated. I definitely agree with you about expectations being somewhat over the top for some fans.

Let's be real - this team has beaten three pretty bad teams - Eagles, Rams & Saints & one average one (TB) at home. They have lost all of their road games (granted to good teams for the most part) in blowout fashion in all but one of those games. They have also basically had no run game nor stopped the run in most of their recent games, and these were previously identified as areas critical to their success.

I expect to see this roller coaster ride continue for the remainder of the season & that is not that bad. What I hope doesn't happen is any of these player not putting out full effort for the entire game which may or may not have happened yesterday. Again - there is a lot of hope for this team over the next few years as SM continues to mold this team.

What changes would you want?

Off the break??

For starters a Center who can remember the snap count.
One or two WRs with some size and speed would be nice.
A RB who can actually hold onto the ball

Maybe a DC who isnt affraid to play a press cover scheme with that single high safety lok we seem to be in love with. For the love of BOB, blitz occasionally already.

Cut... Lerbeius, the boat anchor, those are the only two I think have to go now. One because he is just a liability on the line, the other because he is just a liability period. Others will likely be added to this list for reason of age, cost or just under performing.

I dont see alot of trade value right now because most of the guys who might have it also either cost too much to trade for, or are too old to get any thing of value.

Fired.. Barry and Fewell come to mind. I also think they screwed the pooch when they got rid of the LB coach from last year.

The guy taking up a roster spot with NO shot of getting on the field. One definition of a boat anchor.

While I understand where you are coming from, there is no reason to cut the boat anchor at this point. It only gives another competitor a chance to sign him before we play them (philly and dallas comes to mind). While I doubt he could learn the playbook to make a difference against us on the field, he could provide intelligence to build a successful game plan against us.
