Against a GL package like that you have sell out to to stop any runs (go big, run blitz, etc.), and they're not going to sell out with 80 yards of field. It's just not necessary. As the field gets shorter, the odds decrease because the of the defensive speed.
Mmmm now that makes sense.

Actually, after watching the all 22 footage, I am happier with our line than I was before. If you really watch the footage - there really wasn't much to complain about from the OLine. More plays were blown due to missed blocks by the TEs than by the rest of the oline combined. Their run blocking was decent and their pass protection wasn't bad either. The Seahawks gave up 4 sacks, yes 2 were on the interior line, but 1 was Graham one on one with a DE and 1 was a low pressure sack that Wilson ran into. Despite what people may think - the line wasn't the main reason we struggled to put the ball in the end zone.

So just curious: of the "I'm not happy" crowd, would you have been more satisfied with a 26 point win with more offensive and slightly worse defense, or is it more that we should have won by greater than 26 points? Would 40-14 get you to call off the dogs, even if that included 2 TDs on our 1st team D?
My pre game prediction was 41-10, and I knew that was lofty. Instead, we got a win by a 26 point margin. How in the world could I be upset with that?
I pity those that have no idea how hard it can be to win in this league, because when things change for the worse, will they be able to handle it?

RW is far from perfect but I really don't see what you are saying, AO. I'm sure there are times where he holds the ball longer than he should. Happens to every QB. I have never seen him hold onto the ball for 7 seconds unless he's running for his life.

Of course sometimes the line does its job and RW does hold on too long. Sometimes because he can't see anything open and sometimes because nothing is open.

I am almost stunned that the height thing is still something that is discussed.

I haven't discussed his height... Never been a big deal to me... I'm just saying it seems like he's having a harder time seeing for some reason and he's leaving the pocket a bit too early... Is that the reason he's doing? Who knows but it's not like I'm way out in left field for thinking that could be some of the reason....

I hear what you're saying I just don't see it.

RW is so routinely immediately pressured that I think that he errs on the side of moving right now. Unless a team is running a timing pattern a QB needs at least 2 seconds in the pocket. He's not getting that.

Maybe there are bunches of open receivers he is no seeing but I don't think that is the case.

RW is far from perfect but I'm putting the sack issue at about 85-15 the line's fault versus RW's fault.

To me this probably it. Lack of trust in his protection. If his first option isn't there, he's looking for the rush and figuring out where he needs to scramble.

But just for perpsective, he's sitting at 70% completion right now and being careful with the ball; most of his passes have been relatively short and not many shots taken deep or scrambles that have resulted in big pass plays. The two picks were both really good plays by defenders -- first one probably as much of a product as who the target was (Lynch) as quality of throw, and the 2nd one just sort of a flukey type play.

I think I would grade him out as a solid B so far. Not much offensive production in first halves of games, but in the 2nd half when we've turned more of the game over to him is when we've been the best.

Agree with this.

I would also add that big plays take time to develop. Receivers can't get very far downfield in 1.5 seconds.

Right....the kind of shots we can take right now are just sideline fades where RW hucks it with loft and waits for the WR to run under....or backyard football.

We have a chicken and egg problem right. We need the run game to take pressure off the pass rush but we need the pass game to take pressure off the run defense.

Basically we just need more consistency from the line. :)

It's not like I think we played GREAT or anything, but some folks are in here with torches and pitchforks and talking about firing people. For me as long as we are getting a win and not suffering a bunch of injuries, I'm pretty happy in the early part of the season. It's awfully tough to sustain what the Cards and Pats are doing right now for 16 games. Last year we were a fairly mediocre to slightly above average team until the middle of the season, and from that point on we were the best.

I don't think Detroit's defense is one of the worst in the NFL ... They were 2nd in total defense last year just behind us ... Losing Suh hurt them obviously, but they still have a talented group ... 4 games in they've just had some rough times early..

Some things never change (RE Bears game on 10/27/2015)
Seattle Defense Brings Curtain Down on Steelers, 30-0

The defense in the Bears game was actually better than in the '86 game, where the Hawks forced 5 turnovers. The Seahawks shut out Chicago while getting 0 turnovers, a very hard thing to do in the NFL of any era.

Cheer up, Hawkophiles. The NFL has no rules awarding style points, except as a late-option tiebreaker mechanism using point differential, and 26-0 does nothing to harm a team in that regard.
NFL playoffs tiebreaking procedures

Can the Seahawks offense get better? Certainly. Am I happy if they win every game 26-0? Ecstatic. Does anyone still remember the 1976 Pittsburgh Steelers?
1976 Pittsburgh Steelers season - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Much different situation, with the injured QB and spectacular running game, but look at the run from 1-4 to AFC Championship game, and tell me that Steeler fans were not jubilant every time their team took the field in November and December.

GO SEAHAWKS!!!

If I got this upset after a win, I think I would take a break from being a fan. I bet you are MISERABLE to watch the game with.

I would be fine with that had say Okung improved under his coaching. He has not. Okungs best season if it wasn't for injury was his Rookie season, he has NOT improved as a blocker and has actually regressed. Yeah Cable might be able to make Defensive linemen better blockers but he can not make actual Olinemen better blockers.

After a win? Yes we won and Luck had EVERYTHING to do with it and a bad missed call. I expect better from this team and if you are cool with how they are playing football then good for you.

Seems people are forgetting the Hawks two wins were against the teams ranked in the bottom 4 in Defense and bottom 4 in points against. Excuse me the Hawks were playing AT HOME against two of the WORST Defensive teams in the league. Oh and BTW the Lions almost won their first game against a good team on the road in the past 4 years or something like that. Are the Hawks good? Well the defense sure as heck is. Offense? not so much, one of the worst in the league right now to be honest.

Not saying I'm "cool" with every aspect of the team's performance, but that doesn't mean I have to join your club. I'm certainly not going to try to talk you out of your rage, so enjoy it.

am i pissed about how the club is playing? yes but i am not in a rage. I love the Hawks but on a scale of 1-10 on importance they are a 3 so unlike some say more immature younger kids or fans it's doesn't really bother me. I find it funny how people can even be excited about these types of wins. they feel like loses to me just not in the standings. The Hawks look down right bottom half of the league bad and that is sad. They are making teams that should and could go 0-16 to 4-12 look like 8-8 to 10-6 type teams and this is the kicker, they are doing this @ HOME!

Someone needs to be pushing Drew Nosnap for the starting center position this week. If no one on the roster can do it, then they need to bring back Lem. So many plays destroyed by a bad snap, including one of Russ' fumbles.
