Cant help but wonder how much longer we will be seeing him. Love the guy but this many concussions/injuries has to weigh into his thinking on playing the game at this point. Nothing is more important than your overall health

That is a serious concern. There is a cumulative effect on concussions.

Is the concussion Reed says he believes he had and hid for two weeks during his rookie year in that 6 count?

If Reed can't bring himself to hang it up after this latest one. Should the NFL or another outside party, a Skins coach, a doctor, Reed family member, etc be brought in to try and convince him to do so? As it seems that at this point if he continues to play. Its not a matter of if he ends up with #7, but more when will he end up with #7.

And as far as the NFL powers that be go. I can't imagine they'd be too keen on seeing Reed back in action for an NFL team on an NFL football field, pretty much waiting on #7 to happen.

Pretty sure the 6th was one that occurred in college that is not listed. I read somewhere that there were 2 from his college years.

The thing I always wonder about these head injuries is, if its this big a deal in the NFL ( and no Im not saying it isnt a big deal) How in the heck do sports like Hockey, Boxing and heck even baseball manage to NOT have older players walking around in a mental fog for life?? Watch the average Hockey game and count the number of intentional head shots, and Boxing, where HALF the sport is, smack a guy across the head repeatedly.

I just worry for him because the concussion like symptoms lasted a very long time last time around. Just want him to make the best decision for himself, family and life without regard to the team.

Watch a hockey enforcer documentary . They are in bad shape. Also hitting and fighting has basically been taken out of hockey these days.

Yeah as anybody else outside of a Reed circle making the call could possibly be construed as infringing upon Reed's right to make a lawful and legal living. If that decision were to come back from Reed/Reed's circle as a yes, he wants to continue to play. The NFL would probably want some some type of contract agreed upon by Reed and the NFL. Releasing the NFL from any liability of past, present, and future injury Reed might (will almost definitely) incur.

Bringing up boxing is very interesting. My Uncle Gus was a professional boxer until he got his ear drum broke in a fight. We used to go down to the gym and visit some old fighters. Most had some sort of brain damage. Are any of you old enough to remember Jerry or Mike Quarry? They barely knew who they were. No short term memory, could hardly speak.

It is only a big deal to the NFL because of the law suit. Going forward if these guys try to sue again the NFL can say they put all these processes into place to protect players to cover their butts in court. It is up to each individual player to decide if he wants to protect his health or make the money. Who is to say if they are right or wrong?

Yeah I read a story years ago about wss a mess Jerry Quarry was. Scary scary stuff. I don't want Jordan Reed going down that road just so we can enjoy him catching a few passes.

To a degree I can accept what the NFL is doing. It is no more shady than cigarette companies putting warnings on the pack. Informed consent. And in the case of the NFL, its above informed consent.. .these guys get paid well for playing at this level. So while I never want to see another Jr Seau story, where he was so jacked up from repeated head blows that they think it was the reason he ended his life. I can also say that I couldnt blame Reed if he took the risk to try and land the big payday either.

I won't say Seau's problems were not caused by brain damage but I won't say they were either. The reason I feel like this is because I have always gone back to boxing. Those guys take so many more headshot than football players with no head protection at all and you do not have wide spread suicides, murders etc. among them. Football players commit suicide because of head trauma, wrestlers kill others and commit suicide due to steroid use. Although I believe there is some truth in those statements I also think the media has over inflated them.

Yep - I would strongly disagree that a lot of boxers don't have major issues related to head trauma later in later. I would also guess that most people view this in terms of famous boxers. We forget about the numerous average and lesser boxers who probably have all types of brain/head issues that cause all type of problems later in life.

If you read my post previous to this one I spoke about seeing these guys (the lesser known) boxers when going to the gym with my uncle. I am also very good friends with a boxing promoter here in MD and know a number of boxers. Head trauma, yes. Committing suicide and murder, not so much. I don't know what you are strongly disagreeing with.
