I know Milk hates when we dont explain ourselves for me its the pitching where I have Hockeys rotation and pen as much better. I do love Foxx, Mays and Kiner though...

Milk knew he should be voting, thinking about penalizing him somehow for making us wait!

Since this hasn't been answered since I started this post (6:17 PST) I assume milk is upset no one likes his roster. I will share my thoughts on his team

Joe Sewell - It's always nice to have a HoFe. Sewell has an outstanding .312/.391/.413/.804 line, which is one of the best here, but he was never a lead off hitter. His lack of speed and reliance on station to station play would make him a hinderance in that position. Though I wouldn't think a traditonal modern lineup allows for him to be a heart of the line up guy, I would think his bunting ability would have made him perfect for a #9 role.

Stan Hack - Another guy who depends on OBP to make an impact but doesn't really do much to help get himself into scoring position. He did lead the NL in steals in 1938 & 1939, but 16 & 17 respectively isn't anything to get too excited about. As a career lead off hitter with an OBP of .396 when leading off, I would have put him #1 over Sewell. Though his offensive numbers look nice, in reality the 1920s and 1930s were more offensively dominate than the 1990s, so offensive numbers are elevated due to lack of quality pitching beyond the few studs of the era.

Willie Mays - Nothing but love for Willie. IMO, best player in this matchup.

Jimmie Foxx - Again, love Foxx, and he doesn't seem to get the attention that he should (which is saying something cause it isn't like he's unknown or anything).

Jason Giambi - Always felt he was a little overrated, and to use a team like the Yankees on Giambi should be a crime in and of itself ;) . This is another pick where OBP seems to be the reason he was picked. Again, Giambi has no speed and no way to move himself into scoring position. The fact he has power is the only thing that is seperating him for the first two in the line up.

Ralph Kiner - Another HoFer, and another player with a high OBP. Batting orderwise, I would probably have moved Kiner before Giambi, but that's a personal preference.

Carlton Fisk - Really good catcher, and no issues with the player. Seems to be the first that didn't get on base a great deal - but like just about everyone else, no really a speed guy and not known for anything but hitting HRs.

Bobby Grich - Good power for a second baseman and he's hitting right about where he should in this roster.

Right Field - He drafted Burnitz and then dropped him - which I am not against the drop, beyond having to wonder why his last pick needed dropped. Doesn't appear to have actually drafted 24 players - so at a disadvantage.

Adrian Beltre - Possibly the best defensive 3Bman in the draft, and I may have started him just to get his glove on the hot corner. Take out his seasons playing in the hitter's black hole of Safeco Field and he's a top notch hitter as well.

Jim Bottomley - A better than Solid left handed bat on the bench - which will be needed with the overwhelming numbers of right handed hitters in the line up.

Alan Wiggins - Short career, and it's pretty evident that he is nothing more than a pinch runner. It's the only speed on the team, so the pinch running will be needed.

Ernie Whitt - back up catcher, and as back up catchers go in this draft - better if he never gets to the plate. He would be a defensive replacement.

Jose Valentin - Utility infielder who has some power and a high SO rate. He could spell just about everyone in the infield, but since every player on the bench already fills am infield position, He's redundant.

Overall Line up - Though there are some really good players in his line up - not having a right fielder on the roster hurts. Nearly just as bad, not having a bench OFer hurts. What hurts the most in this matchup is a line up with only 3 left handed bats. This may be one of the few times throwing 4 RHSP (like Hockey does) is actually a bonus.

Rotation

Warren Spahn - Excellent ace. Nothing to be critical about, and in fact - Hockey throwing 6 LH hitters in his line up actually benefits Spahn, making a very good pitcher even better. If he has to throw a game 1 and game 6 - should be a very long day for Hockey's team. Unfortunately, Hockey also has a HoFer with the same advantage in the same spot - so expect a low scoring game both times which could go either way (so neither is a gimme).

Robin Roberts - Another HoFer, but definitely not of the same quality as Spahn (which is a given since Spahn is the Ace). In this case, though, he is disadvantaged by facing 7 guys from the left side, while at the same time Hockey's pitcher once again gets the overwhelming RH advantage. LHB hit a .280 clip off Roberts, while RHB weren't nearly as successful against Marichal. I don't want to say Marichal is just better - but he has every advantage in game 2 and game 7.

Fergie Jenkins - The third HoFer of the rotation. I think he would handle the LH lineup better than Roberts (.262 against LH), he unfortunate enough to be across from Newhouser. This would be another game that would be a close one, Jenkins could come away with a win in game 3, if Newhouser gets wild.

Tommy John - A solid pitcher in his own right, he's more than just a surgery, but even though 288 wins is Hall
worthy, it was only that high because of his longevity. Though John gets the advantage of a Lefty/Lefty matchup heavy lineup - Niekro gets the same advantage.

Bert Blyleven - Blyleven was a stud, and his prime was wasted on some bad teams. His success against LHB is similar to Ruffing against RHB - but with the 20's averaging nearly 20 points higher on BA than the 70's and 80's it isn't as close as it seems.

Bullpen

with the pitchers on both teams - if it really gets to the bullpen, then the game is most likely over. Overall, I like Hockey's pen more, even if he's a little closer heavy (which I consider a negative).

How I see a 7 game series panning out:

Milk
Hockey
Hockey
Milk
Hockey
Milk
Hockey

So there's the novel why I voted hockey. The main reasons

1) Not a complete lineup
2) Though a high OBP - no ability to score without long ball.
3) Heavily RH line up against heavily RH rotation
4) Too many IFers on the bench without any OFers.

Holy shit! Nice break down... I have a lot to learn, Milk has gotten OBP in my head... I didn't go as hard on it in this draft as I usually do... Great work!
