I say give him one more start and throw lots of off speed stuff.

Maybe works on the off speed stuff during his bullpen between starts? I think they are gonna have a hard time telling Derek he cant start the next game for the Rangers, after throwing 91 pitches

I believe I heard that DeShields is only the 13th rookie to get hit by a pitch, get a walk, steal a base and homer in the same game.

Had to have tonight's game with archer going tomorrow. Hamilton's bat speed is still impressive.
Archer is tough but it seems he struggled against us last time but that does not mean he will tomorrow night. You are right on Hamilton's bat speed. When he misses you don't think the bat speed is there but when you see him make contact then you realize it is there.

His bat still stays in the zone a long time.

He has a career 3.86 ERA against us but we've hit just .193. Last time he pitched at the Globe he struck out 12. Josh has hit over .300 against him though. Different team, hopefully different results.

Banny thanks for totally icing Odor down there at the bottom while he was hot

It's worth noting Odor has seen 17 pitches in his last 7 AB.

In an interview after the game Deshields said he is capable of hitting HRs a lot more often, but that he has changed his approach to fit in with what the Rangers need him to do where he is hitting in the lineup. He also said to not be surprised to see him hit some more.

Rangers' Cole Hamels throws bullpen session | texasrangers.com

Left-hander Cole Hamels threw a normal bullpen session without any issues Friday, giving the Rangers increased hope he'll be ready to start Monday against the Mariners.

...Chi Chi Gonzalez replaced Hamels on Thursday and will stay in the rotation. With Nick Martinez back at Triple-A, Gonzalez will start Tuesday against the Mariners.
Right now having Chi Chi pitching is not much different than Nick pitching. But here is hoping he has a better game.

I think Holland may be back next time through, though we would still have to see one of those guys. I guess Chi Chi getting the experience may be better at this point. Nick has had a couple years to figure it out and still has a ways to go.

Passing this stat on: Rangers RHP Colby Lewis (12-5, 4.61) has allowed 13 homers in 52 innings during his last eight starts. Lewis is tied for fifth in the American League for homers allowed with 21.

Can't believe we won.

Me either.....Don't know exactly why last nights game was so frustrating for me, but late in the 2nd/early in the 3rd I decided I was bitching at the set/team way to much for a Friday evening and sought out entertainment elsewhere.

Good to see a win, and to get support from an unexpected source, Hamilton, was really grand.

He also struck out 8 in 5 IP, while only walking 1. I didn't see him pitch so I'd be fine with him getting 1 more down there. Holland is probably better than the alternative though.

If he's striking out 8 in 5 innings against AAA hitters, his stuff must be nasty.

Josh will still have his moments. The talent is still there.

Nothing new there. Doesn't bother me much.

True.....I was more referring to the MRI on his knee and had already - prematurely for sure - put him on the shelf for 2 weeks.

Glad it did not happen as from what I was reading it was really weighing him down to think he could miss more time. I know we get on him for that but he really wants to be able to play. And he seems to have had some very timely hits or in the case of the SAC fly last night timely ABs. I think it is definitely in our best interest if he is able to stay healthy.
