It might be a footnote, but Nebraska actually has in fact beaten Wisconsin while being a member of the conference.



They're not some unstoppable juggernaut (Ohio State showed that). Nebraska has better skill players. Wisconsin has just shown better coaching, line play, scheme, and sheer work ethic. Like a LOT better.

That's one thing I can thank Wisconsin for. They showed the uninformed majority of Nebraska's fans that Bo Pelini was bold faced lying to everyone when he said the reason Nebraska can't win more is because he can't recruit better players. Wisconsin is consistently ranked in the 40's in recruiting. Nebraska in the mid-20's.

If Nebraska doesn't dominate the west division in the next decade, Mike Riley will have failed.

Bo Pleeny was wayyy over his head as a head coach. Many of us said that after the first 4 years, and were attacked as being non-fans.

I honestly don't think he'd survive as just a defensive coordinator in a top 10 program. I think he was using antiquated schemes that he'd learned as a position coach in pro-ball and that side of the ball has passed him by.

i.e. not a guru, but someone who had success with someone else's creativity until the game caught up.

He did win a national championship as a DC at LSU, so he has the right to say fuck you if he wants over your top 10 program claim.

I do appreciate that Bo never rode the coattails of his success at other programs. Bill Callahan would mention that he coached a team that played in the super bowl any chance he got. Bo never mentioned his nationa title winning defense at LSU. Like never. He never mentioned his success as a DC in his first go round here, or his time at Oklahoma, or the fact that he was a captain at Ohio State.

Bo was almost monk-like in that respect, but he sure did turn around and become bullish and arrogant toward this fan base.

There were times that Bo's scheme gave certain teams absolute fits. When the strengths of that defense shined, they shined bright.

Bo's D may have been a "spread-killer", but only an extremely pass-heavy spread. That was his niche. Killing the pass game of a spread team.

He'd make for a fantastic secondary coach in the NFL.
