from a purely football standpoint?

handing off the the fridge instead of sweetness.
I don't know if I'd call it the "worst" call, but it's definitely up there for douchy-est that's for sure

There are worse Seattle related calls than that one.
Calling Rick Meier's name with the 2nd pick in the draft.
Calling Aaron Curry's name with the 4th pick in the draft.
Calling Dan Mcguires name in the 1st round.
Howard Schultz returning the call from the carpetbagger in Oklahoma.
Calling Lou Pinella into the office to let him know his services were no longer needed by the Mariners.

For any that care, the OP is confirming that Seattle lost the SB instead of NE winning it.
That is a new chip on the shoulder of the Seahawks. They tend to like to have as big of a chip as possible to use for motivation. That call in SB49 provided the chip they seek.

I honestly never considered that a bad call. Sometimes it's better to throw a first-pitch curveball if you know the hitter is sitting on a fastball.

Truth is Butler made a fantastic read and perfectly timed his undercut on the route. He doesn't get enough credit for the game-clinching defensive play.

If it was the Pats at the one and it was Sherman who made the play, it would probably be pimped by the media as the greatest defensive play in Superbowl history.

Stop Rock, you are making my head hurt even more.
Butler made a HUGE play on a Terrible call.
If you want to pass, throw the fade. Not that pass.

That pass play/call/outcome was the most devastating event in my "watching sports" career. No Doubt.
Thank goodness the Hawks won the previous year, and thank Goodness the 'window' is still open.

and SI would have said that is was the GREATEST CALL IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL if they scored the TD there...

Bottom line: It was a good call (not many people were expecting a pass) but Butler read it perfectly and intercepted it! NOT the worst call ever

i had to watch brady heave it desperately to a streaking moss over and over in a panic move rather than use the clock.

literally screaming at my TV.

that still hurts and it was what,m 8 years ago?

The logic was that why take the risk when you have Marshawn Lynch in the backfield?

i sat there after that bobble on your back circ de sole catch...and said "brady is fucking cursed, no doubt about it"

it was the 3rd superbowl in a row he put his team up late in the game, only to have his defense "blow it" on miracle plays by the opposing team.

brady putting up 14 late 4th quarter pts vs that defense, and having nothing to show for it?

that would have...sucked.

Only two possible reasons I can think of:

1: Lynch was stopped the play before
2: Everyone expected Wilson to hand the ball off the Lynch again

The call didn't work... Doesn't mean it's the worst call ever...

I agree ... It was the worst call in Super Bowl history .... Bevell loves getting cute near the goal-line, I"m telling you I was SCREAMING at the top of my lungs give the fucking ball to Lynch Bevell, don't do it Bevell!!!! ... So you can imagine my utter frustration.... In an earlier game Lynch actually flipped Bevell off because we passed the ball 3 times in a row from the 1 ... It was a painfully stupid play-call ... BUT I must also say, it was a dam good defensive play, DB timed that perfectly... couldn't have been played better... Slant should a never been called their though... Pete should a over-ride anything Bevell wanted to call there, so he get's some blame as well...
