How Rangers SP Nick Martinez can set a new club record Tuesday | | Dallas Morning News
Martinez has not allowed an earned run in 14 innings, which is tied with Jim Umbarger (1976) and Alexi Ogando (2011) for the fourth-longest streak by a starter without an earned run to begin a season. He needs to go five innings without an earned run to match record-holder Jon Matlack, who went 19 innings over a three-game period in 1980.
Ah, the greatness of Jon Matlack. Now that brings back some memories. The name of Jim Umbarger brings back some memories as well.
At the beginning of the year, Martinez and Tepesch were about the same in my book, but Martinez showed MUCH more growth in his one year than Tepesch did in his 2 previous, and I even like Tepesch
I think Martinez is going to be a solid one.... and he can pinch run if needed![]()
I think Martinez may turn into a solid #3, but he should definitely be a good #4.
Hey Gerry why are you so cantankerous? If you want to ask Gerry Fraley any Rangers questions he will begin answering them at 2:00 today, but you can ask them now at this link.

The team would have been negligent if they didn't at least look into the overall situation. Of nothing else, assure themselves they were/are doing all they can to avoid/correct/rehab the best they can.
And why they're at it, might take a look at the hitting department.I'm glad to see this too. But if I'm reading this correctly, nothing much has or will change.
This subject was bantered around about a week ago, and it was my position then/now that due to the variance in injuries, and how they occurred, there wasn't much to be done about this. But, I'm glad to see them examine how they deal with the rehab process.
