There's no question he left us with some talent. But he coached that talent to terrible results 3/4 of the time and the big trade is not going to work out. So he has to take his lumps along with the praise.

If Cousins turns out to be a good long term starter either in DC or if we trade him and get a high round draft pick for him, Dan Snyder should send Mike a stripper gram at least. 90% of the world bashed the pick when it came in, 50% of the fan base would have settled cousins being shipped off for a half eaten fromunda cheese sandwich this off season just to not have to deal with any turmoil his presence might have created. Nine Months after Mike was fired, our season hinges on a decision he made back in 2012. He wasnt perfect, and he contributed to his getting fired for sure, but I still think he did more good than harm to this franchise.

So you want to give the QB time to grow as a player but not the coach time to develop him?

Interesting.

He didn't have all that talent in year one either. He had to acquire it over a couple of years. I have shown the team he acquired a few times...only like 5 players he acquired were still in the league in year two. It was bizarre how bad the team that he acquired was.

He also won our only division title in over a decade.

Then led us cliff diving right back into the NFC East cellar with a quickness to the tune of 3-13 the following year. Fantabulous, Mike.

He won our second playoff game in 20 years.

No, he did not. We lost to Seattle in the 1st rd of the playoffs. Which reminds me. His 0-1 playoff record in 4 years of coaching the Skins sucks swollen blue nuts.

Trent Williams, Ryan Kerrigan, RG3, Alfred Morris, Darrell Young, Jarvis Jenkins, David Amerson, and Kirk Cousins were all members of Shanahan drafts. He was also responsible for signing Pierre Garcon. Three of these are pro-bowlers...name another coach for Washington who has done this

I like Trent, RK, RG3, Alf, and DY and Cuz is OK.......with pending status to go either up, maybe way up, or down on Cuz.

RG3's status is also pending anywhere from "who knows? to All Time What If" team.

As for Amerson... he's still under "we'll see" status.

Jenkins, at least for me, is firmly entrenched in "so what?" status.

As for the bolded.........seriously?

Joe Gibbs coached the Skins to more Super Bowl appearances, 4, and as many Super Bowl titles, 3, as Shanny drafted Skins players who made a Pro Bowl.

Gibbs also coached more players, 4, who are in the Hall of Fame. Than Shanny drafted pro bowl players. And Gibbs is himself in the Hall of Fame.

You really wanna play that game? OK, name another Redskins coach who had 3 Pro Bowlers and still finished 3-13?

You're trying to separate Shanny the GM from Shanny the coach. But news flash, they are the same guy, so they cannot be separated. He did a decent job rebuilding the talent, then coached them down the toilet to 3-13. He's gone. He got his final year of pay ($7M?) to go sip margaritas on a beach somewhere and not coach this All Pro talent he acquired to any more losing seasons.

I like all the players he had the incredible opportunity to evaluate for a whole week as the coach of the 2012 Senior Bowl...and, whiffed.

Except of course for...KC

Rumor has it, Coach had a great vacation in Gulf Shores that weekend...Thanks again, Mike.

Looking back shanny was right about everything. He was a top notch coach undermined by owner with carp talent to work with. I wish we had kept him. It was so rotten how the fan, media and owner treated him. Idiot fans don't appreciate shit!

IM a fan of the Shanahans. I think Rg3 wanted them fired and did actively work to make it happen. But Mike failed to take control of the situation until it was too late. THAT is on him.

Was the Cousins pick bashed here? Surprised to read that. On our old board it was mixed, I'd say 60% were in favor including me. I loved the pick, thought it was great value that could pay off with a solid backup and then parlayed into a higher picker later.

As for Blunt's post about retaining Shanny that's just nonsense. Breed will back this up, I was the LAST Shannahan supporter seemingly anywhere. I agree with the premise of this thread, he certainly left us with a lot more talent then we had when he arrived. But his tenure was a complete and utter failure on the field and he had to go. To say that is the opinion of "idiot fans" tells me all I need to know about Blunt. His opinions are just whacked and I believe he has anger issues.

Apparently not.

Good grief this thread is ridiculous. And not in the way the kids use ridiculous today. He was terrible coach plain n simple. And for people who think or act like he's the best coach in Washington history, how does that even happen with a HC who's overall winning percentage is .375, is just mind blowing.

Yeah but go back to the theme of the thread. Do you not agree that the team he left was in much better shape personnel wise than the one he inherited?

I know you've heard this from me a million times but I've got a new audience. The team he inherited was the oldest team in the league, was terrible and because of a few bad contracts they had no depth and a horrible cap situation. Even with the cap penalty, and I put 80% of the blame on the league and 20% on the team, he left the team in much better shape than when he got here. In fact when compared to Casserly, Gibbs 2 and Vinny he's Bobby Freaking Bethard.

Everybody knew Shanny had to go. That is not the point.

These posts, especially the first 2, clearly backs what Breed is contending.

Love you too TC. We can have a honest decision about the ongoings of the Skins. I'm glad Mike was hired> He did make things better, changed the nature of the franchise, got Sydner to back off a lot, maybe not completely, but enough. The organization is in a better way. Just gotta hope it stays going in a positive direction

I'm not angry and I read just fine. I just think this thread, the theme of the thread and some of the rationale in this thread is fuckin stupid.

If you wanna shimmy up Shanny's leg and superglue yourself to his nut sack. That's your business and I'm cool with that. Post about it though, or most any other topic really, on a message board that's accessible to a fairly sizable number of other posters. All of whom have their own opinions and viewpoints and some of whom will surely disagree with what you've posted. You should expect some of those posters who disagree with your opinion to also post their own opinion. That's all I'm doing.

Shanny doesn't deserve thanks for anything he did with the Skins. He was paid and quite well I might add to accomplish turning this franchise around and putting it back on the road to winning football games. He failed and he did so in miserable fashion. You thanking him by starting this thread, taking out a full page ad in your local newspaper or giving him a handy won't change that.

So which of the picks in my original post did you not like. Did you want Okung? Did you disagree with the Kerrigan pick? Did you think that the Cousins pick would divide the locker room? Did you want to draft another corner instead of Amerson? Did you not like the Alfred Morris pick in the 6th round?

Oops I left out the Keenan Robinson and Perry Riley picks, both in the 4th Rounds.
Clearly those bothered you??

So Shanny drafted better than Vinny Cerrato, thats barely any sort of accomplishment. It remains to be seen how much talent we really have, given we just ended a 9 game losing streak to the Jags, who were 3rd worst in the NFL last year.

I'm not bashing Shanny's draft record at all, BTW. He did fine. Got a few nice late round picks, did OK in the 1st round but also traded 3 for Griff and that hasn't really worked out so far. His drafting was the best thing he did while he was here. But his coaching sucked swollen blue whale nuts and his managing of the franchise, the McNabb trade, the cap penalty, handling RGIII like a bitch, micro managing Haslett to run a scheme he didn't even like, and ultimately leaving us 3-13 after 4 years, he deserves neither thanks, nor praise for any aspect of that whole mess.

Drafting - B. Everything else - F.

I can't argue any of this. And I was the last, or so I thought, Shanny supporter. Sure he made pretty good picks but let's not pretend he left the '91 Redskins behind. Last time I checked all this talent will probably finish around .500.
