Would you rather have Adam Dunn, who can at least hit righties reasonably well, in your lineup? Or Alberto Callaspo, who hasn't been hitting lefties or righties this year?
Getting Lowrie back soon should help too.
I'm really not seeing the desperation here like people are saying.
I do. Their offense has struggled since trading cespedes. They had no plan to trade for hitters at that time, but because of how bad they have been they are now desperate, and rightfully so. Now they have traded for another lefty that can only hit a home run every once in a while.
I don't see how that makes sense given the A's had their highest scoring month, 2nd highest HR total, and 2nd highest team OPS in August, without Cespedes.
So they're struggling without Cespedes, yet they're hitting better without him?
Is it all that pitching they traded for then? You know the pitching that all but handed them the WS according to many...
The pitching wasn't dominant, but it wasn't really bad or anything in August (3.71 ERA, 1.19 WHIP).
Looking at their game logs, it looks like they lost a lot of close games in August, including 5 games where they lost by 1 run.
