So, we have done best QB, best RB & best WR of all time, I thought with football season on us we could do a couple more positions starting with defensive tackle. Unlike the best of's we have done already DT doesn't have what most would consider a clear #1. So I will list 16 defensive tackles I think could advance to the voting and you can give me ideas of some who need to be on the list and some who need to be removed from the list.

Bob Lilly
Cortez Kennedy
Joe Greene
Warren Sapp
John Randle
Ernie Stautner
Merlin Olsen
Bryant Young
Jim Burt
Alan Page
Jerome Brown
Randy White
Leo Nomellini
Dan Hampton
Howie Long
Buck Buchanan

Please, don't just post who you think is best, we need to come up with 16 to advance to the voting so please let me know who should be on and who should be off.

Looks to me like a good list, but did Howie Long play DT? Pretty sure he was an end.

I think Howie Long was one of those hybrid players that played both if I remember right. So that would be something we would have to distinguish for something like this in do part-time DT's count? Or do they have to be a pure DT for their career?

Ya know Howie was the last one I added to the list, because I looked it up and he's listed as an end but I swear I remember him playing tackle.

in that case, i think Casey Hampton deserves consideration. Unless you are doing a separate nose tackle category. Hampton anchored a defense that was all but impossible to run on for like a decade in the modern era.

/ sorry for misunderstanding your thread, Nosferatu

No worries at all. So if Hampton goes on who comes off?

I'd say these guys are safe for not coming off for Hampton. But, I think a case can be made for the remainder. Hamp loses a lot because he doesn't have the sacks playing in a 34, but in his day you could not run on him.

"I'm biased,"

me too...Randy White was relentless, down after down

I always think of White, Joe Greene, and Cortez Kennedy as the greatest tackles of all time. All three were dominant.

I have no issue with Joe Greene being considered the best. Alan Page was as dominate as any DT for a period of time and deserves consideration.

Some Dallas fans can make the argument that White was not the best DT to play in Dallas, but to me, relentless effort play after play separated the Manster from all others. Randy defined playing to the whistle

I am obviously biased as well but Alan Page not being included in your "safe" list is amazing to me.

Art Donovan and Henry Jordan are 2 HOFs not on lists... I think they could replace Jim Burt and Jerome Brown (great player... but only 5 year career).
