No love for Green? He's my favorite after Slay and Mathis.

He had a nice pick last night.

That Hester fella looks headed for the practice squad- he had some nice plays last night.

This is the place alright. Just be careful with that "fan" stuff. There's a few trolls on here who disguise themselves as Lions fans, and if you have anything positive to say about anything related to the team they'll throw a fit...

On the flip side faminegod there are a few trolls in here that flip their shit if you have any constructive criticism about the lions (there should be plenty with their track record) so you will quickly learn some posters are big time koolaid drinkers and cant handle the truth when its smacking them in the face.

No they didn't. One of the worst 4th quarter defenses in the NFL (28th) last year and (16th) over those last 3 games.

Agreed. The defense was average. Had they addressed the secondary this offseason instesd of adding new toys for stafford they might have been elevated to good. As it is, we can only cross our fingers that we play some of the worst passing offenses in the nfl again. Its amazin how easy it is for people to ignore the facts.

If there is no pass rush or it is inconsistent as it has been, the DBs will be average. Good QB's will pick them apart at will. Average QB's will look like good QBs against them.

I think Slay plays well but Mathis doesn't play as well. Bentley/Green/Greenwood must look like competent CB's. I'm intrigued by Lawson but honestly don't expect much from him.

The pass rush was definitely not the problem last year defensively. When the secondary is so bad they can only cover half a second it does make it difficult to sustain a consistent pass rush. They also used horrible schemes for pass rush probably due to the fact they could never afford to blitz since they always needed help in the secondary. When their secondary improves allowing them to blitz more aggressively and efficiently and they cant sustain pressure on the QB, then I will agree their pass rush is subpar. As it was, the defensive line was the bright spot on the defense last year. I still remember halfway thru the season all of the sudden some lions fans thought suh and fairley sucked. Could not figure that one out.

tpaulus_2: not a Lion fan, but like FamineGod a Kffl person.

After the Pats I root for the Lions because of my wife's UP connection. She is from Da Soo.

See what I mean, FamineGod?

5 days and dozens of posts later, guys like this will find a post and get all butt-hurt about it, even though I didn't come remotely close to singling out any particular poster.

What I've come to realize is that certain posters absolutely, positively, cannot handle being disagreed with at all. If you offer any evidence to the contrary when they post that so-and-so "blows" or is "garbage" they lose their cool and resort to calling you a homer, a kool-aid drinker, or immediately resort to questioning Mayhew's career track record.

It's amusing, really. Most posters you can have a perfectly healthy debate with, no worries at all. Others simply want to trash the organization in order to help with their frustrations, and nobody had better say otherwise- they don't want any facts and or opinions that might disagree. In their eyes the Lions suck as an organization and won't get any better until they start doing EXACTLY what he thinks they should do. If you (like me) are foolish enough to try to engage in any sort of debate with them the result is developing a small herd of passive-aggressive e-stalkers like this who find old posts of yours to comment on after the rest of the board has already moved well beyond that point in the conversation.

I imagine this is all pretty standard message board shit though, and you seem to have plenty of board experience prior to landing here in free agency...

Just wanted to clear up a dishonest post from a few pages back-

Someone posted that the "bottom line" was that we were 3rd in total offense and 31st in total defense.

This isn't even remotely close to true, of course- we were 17th in "total defense" (yards) and 18th in scoring defense.

@ FamineGod-

This is a big part of the reason why a particular sub-set of posters like to hurl the "homer" stuff at me, because I'll correct posts that flat-out lie like that one did. My issue is that A.) sometimes I think these people really believe the stuff they're posting, so my hope is that seeing hard facts right in front of them might open their eyes a bit (in this case the defense was not nearly as bad as the guy is trying to make it seem) and B.) certain other posters seek out stats that help support their case that the Lions are a dumpster fire- so if a fib like that goes unchallenged, pretty soon it gets accepted as the truth and suddenly we had the 2nd worst defense in the league last season, rather than a middle-of-the pack unit like in reality.

Those stats only exist in his little pea brain. Here are the SEASON stats from espn

2013 NFL Team Total Stats - National Football League - ESPN

16th in yards per game.

15th in points per game.

Also you can click over to offense and see we were 6th in yards and 13th in scoring. We were above average offense and average on defense despite what some would lead you to believe.

All other stats are subsets of these and meaningless except for turnovers and penalties which is what cost us several games.
