Jim Nance and Phil Simms are doing Browns/Steelers in week one. Kinda gives you a clue as to who the starting QB will be for Cleveland, don'tcha think?

Not sure why everyone loves/loved Hoyer so much. 4 career starts and only one really good game. Knee injury..

JM has got to be the starter. He can do a lot more than Hoyer to help team win. Period. With that D and two decent RB's, he shouldn't have to do that much to win some games.

Exactly. And Hoyer's 28....if he was so good you would have to think he could have caught on with some team before last season.

But, it is the Browns.

In 4 career starts:

58.3%, 228.8ypg, 6.1ypa, 6 TD's to 5 INT's and a 78.4 Passer Rating. But, he's 3-1 as a starter, people think the QB is deserving of all the credit.

SMH.

People aren't going to fill the seats with Hoyer at QB... They are just making it seem like they aren't completely handing him the job.

That's my point exactly. They sold out as pre season game in advance. The jerseys are through the roof, just from a business stand point (and let's not forget, it is a business) the Browns would be ridiculously stupid not to let him start!

I don't like Manziel. How can someone party and miss practice and play well?

Being an inexperienced rookie, he can do a lot more than Hoyer to help them lose as well.
At least with Hoyer you have experience, you have a lower probability of making this bonehead mistakes

Exactly. And Hoyer's 28....if he was so good you would have to think he could have caught on with some team before last season.

But, it is the Browns.

3 years behind Brady, one behind Big Ben, and one behind Kevin Kolb (who at the time was the big ticket free agent in Arizona. Wouldn't be the first late bloomer either..Rich Gannon, Kurt Warner off the top of my head come to mind.

People aren't going to fill the seats with Hoyer at QB... They are just making it seem like they aren't completely handing him the job.
Last year with the carousel of Hoyer, Weedon and Campbell the Browns ranked 11th in average attendance. The Dawg Pound is a hearty bunch, they'll come watch their Browns regardless.

That's my point exactly. They sold out as pre season game in advance. The jerseys are through the roof, just from a business stand point (and let's not forget, it is a business) the Browns would be ridiculously stupid not to let him start!

The Jersey sales won't disappear if he doesn't start the first few games, lets not forget this is a business that is geared towards winning football games to generate revenue, not playing to the fans. The fans have already proven they'll spend the money so long as you win, and sometimes even if you don't, so long as it appears that your trying to.

Hoyer may not be all that great, but its really short sighted to just toss Manziel out there. There are veterans in that locker room who believe in Hoyer, and have had Johnny rub them the wrong way with all this offseason crap. Going to Manziel right out of the gate is telling them, "hey guys, F' this season". Not only that, plus his experience plus his assumed more finely tuned leadership attributes, but he's a local guy, went to high school in the Cleveland area, he's a hometown hero. Anyone assuming that selling tickets is a problem is misinformed to start with, as the Brown will always sell tickets, and even if they didn't, that wouldn't be a determining factor to start the season anyways. But to think that Hoyer will keep Cleveland fans away when he's one of them, of them?? simply not based in reality.

It'll come down to exactly what it should come down to, play on the field during the preseason games. If Manziel outplays Hoyer, he'll probably start, if he doesn't, he won't

Hoyer isn't the future. If they start him this year it's because the browns brass doesn't want to throw manziel to the wolves and screw up his career. One QB I think was messed up with early injuries was Rex grossman. After three season ending injuries he looked like he was scared of getting hit every snap. Give him some time on the bench to see how to QB a team the best way (or to see how not to QB a team.)

I do not know how good Manziel will be, but you guys are seriously underestimating Hoyer.

This is not just some random back up QB. He has learned playing behind some of the best in the game, and what he lacks in talent he makes up for in decision making and poise. Those two attributes are the most important for QB success in the NFL. I don't care how much talent you have, if you make poor decisions you are going to suck.

Manziel certainly has more talent, but I watched two of Hoyer's games last year and I gaurantee that Brian Hoyer is better than at least 10 current NFL starters, maybe a lot more.

The only question is whether or not he is better than Manziel. I suspect that he is, at least right now, but that the hype surrounding Johnny Football is going to sway management if it is even close.

If Gordon gets a year long ban, it will be a long season for either one of them. ..... however, the Manziel hype train will probably be the deciding factor.

Good decision makers, like Hoyer need to be in a good offense ran by a good offensive coordinator. I don't believe that is the case in Cleveland. Heck, even talented QBs need that. Without Josh Gordon, that offense is in shambles.

Well, I guess Nance and Simms can look forward to a lot of Manziel sideline shots.

See Favre, Brett

Another guy who didn't play as a rookie. . In part because he was an immature arrogant prick. The team that drafted him couldn't even wait to get rid of him. Nice piece of evidence to bring to the table when talking about why Manziel should start.

But don't forget my boy Brett evolved...from an immature, arrogant prick to an immature, arrogant diva.
