The Rangers are going to fool around and not get the first pick in the draft.

There is way to much chatter regarding the # 1 pick IMO.

How many number one's have failed? Or second, or third, etc?

It's all we have left..... Most of the players on this team won't be on the major league roster next year. We gain nothing by winning, might as well improve our chances of getting a great player in the draft. With JD and company doing the pick, I'd bet we get our money's worth.

I bet there's less of a % that the #1 pick fails than the rest of the picks. It's a crap shoot yes, but I'd rather have the highest rated player.

We all would like the best out there but that comes with a price. If wanting to lose games and lower my standards to get that pick than I want no part in it. No real winner does. IMO

Of course you would. Who wouldn't?

But that's not what nit-wit is talking about. All this chatter about getting the # 1 pick is conjecture at best, and delusional at worst. Not talking about you, just in general.

It's one player, and like you said, "a crap shoot" so to even suggest this is all this season has left to offer us, or the team, is incorrect.

It would be interesting to see how the #1 thru #5 picks have fared over the last 10 years or so.

Wonder who's the mystery team that claimed Cole Hammels off waivers?

I wouldn't even know where to begin in order to find this out. But it would be very interesting to know.

It's not at all uncommon to see a guy be a Hall of Fame man from the # 1 spot, or from the 5th round. Like Justin said, it's a crap shoot.

Just for grins I started looking up past drafts and took a look at the first pick since 2004.

Gotta admit, it's a pretty impressive % over that period of time with how successful the # 1 picks have been. One guy failed horribly (Matt Bush- 2009) and #1 in 2006 Luke Hochevar (KC) has struggled. But for the most part, the number one's have panned out quite well.

Clayton Kershaw was taken with the 7th pick in 2006. Think the Royals would like to have a do-over on Hochevar?

MLB as a whole has gotten better at drafting. It used to be a cluster fuck.

No clue as of now.:noidea:
At one time JD really, really wanted him before he resigned a rich contract with Philly.

And Lee appears out for year.

Missed much of the game so watched some of it on replay. Couple things, we stink at base stealing. And while Feliz threw it with more velocity and the pitching line looked good I would say Viciedo looked like he should be playing for the Rangers. Had a 2-0 count and swung at ball 3 and later struck out on ball 4. Did not like Feliz command at all.

Looked like Chicago was clearly the worst team this series.

Marte left the game last night after fouling a pitch off his knee. Maybe its Rios time. Just sayin.

While I will say this, Dayan helped Feliz out swinging at pitches out of the zone and his command wasn't good in that AB, his velocity was up (May have been the gun). Feliz threw all FB's except for 1 pitch, when I watched it the second time I did notice there was much more movement on his FB that I don't normally see from him. I think he can at least build some confidence from this outing.
