You can run Baker out there and then who is the long relief? Baker won't make much difference but it's worth the try. Saunders really needs to retire.

Baker may get shelled is true but he has pitched very well lately and has never been given a fair opportunity like Joe has. But we might as well see what he can do as a starter. We are doing ourselves no favors with Joe starting.

Hasn't looked any better? Last 4 appearance he has given up 2 runs in 11 innings.

It's a certain loss when Saunders starts...last year we "found" Wolf and Blackely who actually were decent. Maybe we start scouring the waiver wire if our minor leaguers are not capable (or ready) to step up..

after his last simulated game they said he needed more time. the ASB is in 15 days so how long after it are we talking? to me he needs 3-4 weeks at Surprise to get himself into shape and at least 5 starts minimum at AAA or AA facing real batters before he rejoins the team. so IMO we are looking September 1st at the earliest and by that time why bother?

I think it would be closer to august than sept 1, and you bother, because a whole year off is a wasted year. He needs to get back out there and build of confidence.
