It is not Snyder's right to use the name - they can still use it. It is about allowing others to use the name & profit from it - big difference. Anyhow - fine - whatever - change the name. You are being as melodramatic as some of the politicians with your rants. Again - very little evidence that Native Americans despise this name. All I hear from are non-Native American policians & mediots & some token Indian chief.

I am pretty tired of this issue at this time & ready to move on in any case. You just appear to be somebody who is constantly looking for a debate - reminds me of our elected officials who simply want to talk about things all the time but take no action on real issues. Hail to the Washington Whatevers.

I'll take your criticisms for what they are, however you seem unaware of my current and historical postings here. You've been here in the past when others joined you in healthy debates with me on this issue. Many other times I have just read responses without written replies because I had made known my family history and our reluctance to use the common name of our favorite team. My subsequent silence on this subject stands in direct opposition to your current charges. Go back if you must and read other threads related to this subject (notice my absence).

So yesterday I was listening to a news program and without going into the story they were talking about white people and black people and how each group felt and responded to an incident. My question is no one was upset saying white people and black people. If an Indian was part of this story would it be racist to call them red people?

Maybe we could change the name to Red People.

I think we are years away from a name change, JMO.

Sty... no one gets involved in something like this without some kind of payback scenario. Some where some one see's dollar signs at the end of all this. Sadly its just the natural order of things in our country today. IM not sold that any one does anything when it comes to our legal system just based on principles.

Maybe you're right and I respect that. All I can do is to pass on the current information that I have. There was an interesting interview on 106.7 (Lavar and Dukes) today with a representative of the law firm representing the plaintiffs in this (USPTO) case. In as much as future cases are concerned, time will tell.

I have a question for everyone............If not for the football team under what circumstance would you use the moniker in reference to a group?

I have never heard the word used unless talking about the Washington Redskins. As Shark said, that's exactly the point.

Dude, Im really starting to hope that once they force Snyder to change the name, he moves the franchise to richmond and names us the rebels. Take the hit on ditching the Stadium and ditch DC all together.

Now your talking Shark! Richmond has opened their arms to the Washington team and I believe Richmond would also build the team a new Stadium without Dan having to fork over the money. I would be interested to see if this type scenario would gain any steam or if Dan has already looked into moving the team if the name change happens. "Virginia Rebels" or "Richmond Rebels". Then everyone can really say the team and Dan are racist!!!

perhaps we can call ourselves the "skins " and call it a day

to me it solves all issues , history and the alleged offense to indians

i will no longer say native american because that is BS

india was called hindustan when columbus landed in america so indians is appropriate

Who knows what the hell is appropriate anymore? With the PC police trying to dictate appropriate terminology over words, you're apparently a racist for stating anything differently then an approved list of 'words' that they have generated. Intent and context. Pfffft, who cares about that.

Only thing that doesn't possibly offend someone is using a tribe identifier at this point. Gotten so comical.

Skinsdad I think they are on a scorched earth crusade about the team and the logo at this point. They wont be happy until the name, the logo and all things associated with the team past are eradicated at this point. My question in this is, once they get us, do they then deem that the logos for the Indians, Seminoles, Red Man Chewing Snuff, and every other American Indian image is now some how racist?? They have fought long and hard to make this thing about race and hurt feelings.

Side note,.... If I think long and hard, I have actually heard the word Chief used more often as a racial slur or taunt than I have ever heard the word Redskin used in that manner.

Thom Loverro is often cynical and also sometimes a skins basher, but he makes some excellent points in this article.

For the same reason that you've heard the word Thug used more often as a racial slur or taunt than you've heard the N word used.... because its far less blatantly pejorative and disparaging.

Listen to the Trademark attorneys, they are saying this effects the Redskins in no way at all. Not to mention that it will be in the courts for years. The media is making a big deal out of this, Harry "I have nothing better to do" Reid is making a big deal out of this. Dan Snyder just needs to stay the course and then the name won't change.

Directly from the article...................... "with 2 million Indians enrolled in 566 federally recognized tribes, plus another 3.2 million who tell the Census they are Indian — it’s difficult to tell how many are opposed to the name.."

...............And this...............

"90 percent of respondents did not consider the term offensive, although many question the cultural credentials of the respondents."
