Claiming it's the most popular in the world is completely meaningless. So Europe likes soccer , BFD. It's nothing here and never will be. Europe doesn't have baseball or football so that means they're meaningless? Does ANYONE give a shit what Europe likes ? Not me. You'd be better off not resisting soccer, it's getting popular in the US whether you're on board with it or not. A domestic league that is expanding and doing well, more success at an international level, a national demographic that is becoming predominantly hispanic, the rapid decline in youth football numbers (those athletes will need to fill the fall sports void somehow). All signs point to soccer becoming a prime time sport here.

you can write about it all ya want but the fact is we've been told for 40 yrs it's going to be the most popular sport here and that will never ever happen. It will never even come close to hockey let alone the big 3. Wanna talk abt spare me the bullshit? What I hear is idiots saying " soccer is really big here". No it isn't. They say that becuz their 5 yr old is playing and a bunch of other 5 yr olds play. Once they turn 7 they're gone and don't come back. You guys can talk about your theories on how popular it's going to be but it's nothing more than theories/opinions and it never comes true. The fact is soccer attracts only the people who aren't athletic enough to play anything else and that's all they will ever get. It's a recipe for failure as a sport and a failure it is.

Soccer is exponentially more popular today than it ever was in America. Just 20 years ago you couldn't even watch the World Cup on mainstream TV in America, today ABC and ESPN will dedicated hundreds of broadcast hours to it. Premier League is on NBC, Champions League is on Fox, Liga MX is on univision and MLS just signed a 780 million deal with ESPN and is now the 3rd highest average attendance sports league in America. The FIFA video game franchise is now the 3rd highest selling sports video game in America.

More American watched a soccer game between Spain and Netherlands than watched the NBA Finals and MLB World Series.
