We did a lot for him as well. He was in and out between the minor leagues and us for awhile. A late bloomer. We never gave up on him. Which makes our parting all the more sorrowful. The year he's having if he's still on this team? It's mind boggling. It's must be in the Baltimore waters how former Rangers just explode up there. First Davis, now Cruz.

Indeed... they waited him out and it paid off. After his first couple of seasons, I really thought he might develop into an MVP type guy but it just never happened. Maybe due to all those early injury but now that he is on a different team- he is playing to the potential I saw in him way back then. I am happy for him. I bet his performance so far has some GM's frustrated they didn't go after him hard enough.

What's weird about the O's though is they totally resemble the same sort of teams Showalter had back here in Arlington-lots of pop but not much pitching. I guess that's really not on him though- that's pretty much always been our story until around the 2010 season.

I meant is he ranked 25th overall or in our system? Why are you being a dick?

Nevermind though, I found I without having to be an insider.

Good question.

I don't recall exactly where Gallo was ranked going into the season. But it sure seems like he's made some rather dramatic improvement in his discipline at the plate, while showing even better power.

I think it's going to be interesting to see how we handle him for the rest of the season.

:L Dear Lord... does it matter. He told you he was being sarcastic about it. At that point does it matter if it was obvious? It became obvious when he told you. Why draw this insignificant thing out so long?

Well said sir.

Sunday DMN:

Right-hander Tanner Scheppers allowed a home run for the second consecutive appearance as he continued an injury-rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday night.

Scheppers worked 1 2/3 innings against Omaha of the Kansas City organization, allowing two hits and one run. Carlos Peguero, who has 205 major-league at-bats, hit the homer. Scheppers has allowed three homers in 2 2/3 innings in his last two appearances.

Scheppers had some command problems. He threw 28 pitches, only 15 for strikes.

Joey Gallo, the top power prospect in the Texas Rangers’ organization, ended a brief power outage with a two-homer game in the high Class A Carolina League on Friday night.

Gallo added a homer on Saturday night to break a tie with Peter O’Brien, of the New York Yankees’ organization, for the minor-league lead in homers. Gallo has 21 homers.

Gallo had gone nine games without a homer, the longest stretch of his career. Gallo is becoming a victim of his own success as opponents increasingly pitch around him.

Gallo has 46 walks, second-highest total in the minors. Gallo took 51 walks last season, when he led the minors with 40 homers.

Washington also noticed that with more playing time, Chirinos was quickly wearing down.

“They don’t get over-exerted or over-extended and they stay fresh,” Washington said. “It’s very significant for both of them. You catch your breath and give yourself a chance to perform. All the work on the field is very physically fatiguing and the work that goes into getting the pitcher prepared for the game and through the game is mentally [fatiguing]. All that stuff can take it’s toll.”

Chirinos, for example, hit .233 through May 3, which is more than the Rangers expected, but his workload also increased significantly and he batted just .143 over the next 16 days through the day Gimenez arrived.

Gallo also had 7 RBIs with that 2 HR game.

It's good he's continuing to show the same, if not better power and more walks with the move up in competition. Sounds like the guy listens and reacts to coaching too.

Not sure if it was you or another poster that when I asked why did Gallo come out of a game early they stated they took him out after he did not hustle on a play. Then he did not play the game after that either. Then for about 5 games he really did nothing until that 2 HR game. Nice to know they make the guys play the game right and give them no preferential treatment.

Yeah, that was me. I'm pretty sure I pulled that comment directly from the Morning News.

Very good point on his down time. I really hadn't put 2 and 2 together on this. Good pick up.

Check that.....Robertson is now hitting LO with Choice scratched due to a shin contusion.

Is this guy the only option we have in the minors for a backup OF?

We really need Darvish to pitch deep into the game today, and throwing 22 pitches in the 1st isn't going to get this done.

Can you believe that Murphy has never, on any level, played 1st?
