One down and one more to go this off season, or they just won't worry about it knowing they have their franchise tag in their back pocket if Sherman and his agent want to play hard ball into next off season.

I expect them to get it done, but I think there is far less pressure on the FO now that one of them is signed. You just never know how these things will go in the 11th hour when agents are involved.

I'm curious as to whom the Hawks' fans (or others) view as more valuable, Sherman or Thomas. Thoughts? Despite conventional wisdom about CB vs. FS, I think I'd lean toward Thomas.

Tough call. Thomas covers a lot of ground and allows gives our corners a big safety blanket that he'll be there if they get beat.

On the other hand, Thomas rarely has to help out on Sherman's side because Sherman pretty much locks down that side of the field without any help.

Some QB's won't even throw Sherman's way so I'm kind of leaning towards him, but I could easily be convinced that Thomas is more valuable.

How's that for a non-answer?

Thomas hands down. His range allows Kam to play the middle of the field which is why the little dumps, screens, and slants don't work (because Kam just blows everything up). Without Earl or crap FS play Seattle would be getting torched deep and over the middle non-stop. He's also IMO a ridiculous open field tackler for his size.

Thomas is such a big reason the defense can play so aggressive from the corner/SS spot, so that's why he's gotta stay.

I get that Thomas doesn't have to pay as much attention to Sherman's side, but it allows the other corners to press more and changes entirely how Seattle uses Kam who really is the LOB end of day. Kam is what strikes fear into the receivers/TEs. Thomas puts out some big hits too and Sherman/Maxwell/Browner delivered, but Kam is the boom.

More like the legion of elite secondary players who of which one is nicknamed "THE BOOM"

Thomas is considered the best defender on the team and the defenses most valuable player by almost all fans and pundits.

Sherman is one of the best cover corners in the game and really no one we would rather have out there, but Thomas is the engine for the entire defense and is involved in both the running and passing defense.

Thomas completely shuts down the deep middle. It forces NFL QBs to keep it to short passes or throw into coverage with the likes of Sherman, Maxwell, Lane, and Chancellor. Pete Carroll basically kept his nickle package out there the entire SB because they were blowing up the Manning passing attack as planned.

The entire defense works as a unit, but Thomas is soo good at locking down the middle, it just allows everyone else to do their jobs better because most of the big play ops are non-existent.

Not sure if that is a 'steal'. ET now is the first Safety to break the double digit millions/yr barrier. I mean they didn't get raped, but ET certainly is being well paid.

IMO ET could very easily get 14-15 Per year on the open market. Remember he's still JUST 24 years old...... He hasn't even hit his prime!

I doubt he would get that much on the open market. Gronkowski a couple of years back broke just about every TE record there is yet his next contract he didn't even get close to the top WR money. Heck he got average NFL WR money because the position was a bit more devalued than that of WR. Same goes for the Safety position. It is valued lower than a Corner and the top Corner (right now) is making $12 million a year. So nobody even on the open market would pay more than $12 million at this point. He got what I think most people expected. Yes he could have gotten a little more on the open market but I would bet not much more than this.

Think about it, a 10 mil a yr safety, gotta sign Sherman at CB for top money that is 16+ per yr and Wilson is gonna require a new contract of 100 mil +, so here comes the cap scissors.....And the cutting begins, Pete did good his 4th time around, we'll see if he can do it again or not.....When you have 3 huge contracts on your team, some positions will have to suffer, it's just the cap way..:2cents:

I think Pete and John Schneider have proven to be more then savvy enough. Look at what their locking up. Sherman a 5th rounder, and Wilson a 3rd rounder, add to that Chancellor who was locked up last year a 5th rounder.

Malcolm Smith, super bowl mvp, 7th rounder

Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse (their 2nd and 3rd WRs) Both Undrafted Free agents

Byron Maxwell who undoubtly will sign big time corner money elsewhere, 6th rounder, He is replacing Brandon Browner Signed out of Canadian league....

The work is already in place, Last drafts first pick was Christian Michael RB, which shocked the talking heads, but knowing that Lynch has 2 more years on his deal, he will undoubtly be gone as well.

Yes Seattle is locking up their core of superstars. and yes they will have to fill in with the draft, But with their track record im not worried......
