Specifically that he is NOT Vinny Cerrato?? I get it he isnt going to over pay any one. But our biggest needs on this team were defensive secondary. And yet we have not signed a single safety. And the only corner we have signed is Hall. I will reserve judgment until training camp. But for a team with cap space and needs, we were rather pedestrian today.

I love what we did. Safeties were getting paid a ton...corners were getting overpaid like crazy.

There are a ton of both still available. We have a corner coming tomorrow and we already have two starters.

Yes, safety is a hole and we will sign a starter. The other one will be filled with Thomas or Rambo.

Dude.. rambo is atleast a year or two away from being a solid backup. Thomas is basically a redshirt rookie. We need two starters at safety. I will give you corner to a degree. But we need atleast one more solid corner. And Im a huge fan of Minnifield, but Im not sold he is ready for an extended role.

Shark you confuse me on your FA takes. On one hand you don't want the cerrato days of throwing cash like monopoly $$ at the biggest names and when they prove to be prudent like today you seem like you wanted them to sign big names for big bucks.:noidea:

We aren't a Super Bowl contender. Why not see what we have in our youth? Save the money for next year's FA. Save the money for RG3's extension (if he warrants it). Save money to extend RAK and Kerrigan.

Kev... I dont want us throwing money at over hyped players. How ever. I look at things on a need basis as well. If i need a CB, Im going to sign one. If i need two safety's, my first priority is not going to be a slot WR. Im fine with them being prudent and frugal. But we have obvious needs that have not been addressed in a very long time. I think Mitchell at what he got from the Steelers was a no brainer. Bethea for what he got from the Niners.. same deal. We signed a slot WR, and resigned Moss. I like Moss. But come on man, we do need serious secondary help. And for the deals they got, they would have made the Skins defense a shit ton better.

Because our youth at Safety is either injured or sucks ass maybe?? Just a thought. And if we dont fix this defense we will never be super bowl contenders.

I liked the Mitchell deal as well for the steelers. Maybe he just wanted to play for Tomlin? We'll never know what the skins offered but it's just begun and there are some good football players out there yet and some more cuts to follow. :suds:

You'll never win a SB signing guys to 7 million dollar contracts when they are only worth 4.

Well right now I would put us at a c- for the off season. Im seriously getting the feeling that Bruce is trying to show he wont "over pay" for any one, and thus we will be running a few second and third teir players as starters once again.

The team brought in a receiver and O-lineman, both positions of need. Also added depth and talent on STs which was our weakest area last year. Redskins gave up a LOT of points due to STs last year (directly or indirectly.) First day signings are when teams go overboard and pay way too much. The only guy I would have liked to see it that is gone is Mitchell.

Many teams getting high grades right now will be the same teams that the same experts that are passing out grades now will instead be saying they paid too much in FA.

You fill holes in FA not build a winner. Winners are built in the draft.

I figured'after'going 2 years we would at least got maybe 2 probowl free agents to make up for the draft pick anyway' just maybe free agents just don't want to come he.

I think the only point Bruce is trying to prove is that he is taking a long term view of building a healthy franchise. He is actually doing what we all have harped about for years, he is not overpaying for talent, especially talent that may have question marks around them (Talib). He is using FA for what you are supposed to do, fill holes with value signings. We have so many holes, not all may be filled this year. We all know that the way to really build a long term dynasty is thru the draft.

I am also concerned that we have no starting safeties on board yet, but we need to also recognize that it takes 2 to tango. Mitchell and Byrd may not have wanted to come here so chasing them with more money would make to sense. IF we don't sign Clemons, I have a feeling that we may be making some moves in the draft to get into a position to get their #1 ranked safety, either Clinton-Dix or Pryor.

Most likely. Just not sure Ward is starter material his first year.

Shark... You take the cake dude....Somehow I knew you would not be happy with the front office....I realize we need safety help, but we dont need to overpay to get it...There are plenty of starting safetys still available at much better prices..... You were the one on here saying...Dont pay Talib...not worth it...not with his past....Dont pay Byrd 9Mil a season.....not worth it....So we dont and you complain.....Sure others left the boards like Mitchell who I would loved to have gotten, but to me it shows that we are being RESPONSIBLE....NOT OVER REACTING to the market, and OVERPAYING...

Dude...you need to come out and give the Front office the love it deserves....This whole offseason has been you saying, I am worried we will revert to old ways....we have always done this or that...Danny will do this or that.....Well Danny is sitting back and letting Allen run the show, like he did the previous 4 yrs with shanny..... Come on Shark...>Time to give Danny his due.......

Redskins? Bruce Allen fails to take care of secondary first as NFL free agency opens - The Washington Post

Just like with the draft - you can't grade free agency until several years later & you especially can't grade it less than 24 hours into the free agency period. Chill out.

See the article above. This was written by one of the worst sports reporters (er - I mean bloggers) on the planet. He is basically agreeing with your point so you might want to rethink it (since you are much more informed on the Skins than him).

As recently as yesterday you were complaining that Snyder would probably overpay for some sexy FA. Now that this has not occurred you are still complaining. What exactly do you want them to do? Also - as others have alluded to - perhaps they did go after some of these guys, but they just decided to go elsewhere. Just let this play out before jumping to too many conclusions. HTTR

Guys my point is, they have had three months to get ready for this. We all knew the major needs coming in. Im thrilled that we actually didnt pull a Danny and start handing out over the top contracts. Im glad they resigned Riley. How ever I think tagging Rak should have never come down to that and he should be on a long term deal. I think that with three months to get this thing going, the safety and CB position should have been the primary focus. We do kind of need starters in this area. IM willing to let it play out, but if we roll into the season saying lets see if Rambo has improved with no actual plan A in place, its asking for another bad year from the defense.

Not gonna eat your words in regard to Snyder huh??? I was hoping you would....You were sooo convinced that he would be going for the sexy name, and overpaying......give him some much needed and overdue love from the Shark!!!
