Dude.. I was hoping we would resign him all along. My gripe was the fan base that considered him no better than your average walmart greater. If we did resign him, Im good with it and I hope he got a fair deal.

Well, it doesn't appear to have happened, so we will just have to wait and see. But if he does resign with the skins before free agency officially opens, it tells me that he didn't get much interest from other teams. It wouldn't make sense otherwise. Unless of course the skins made him a very fair offer but that wouldn't fit in too well with your narrative of the skins front office.

So basically no chance in your mind that the Redskins came to their senses and realized that they are infact better off with riley than with two FA ILBs and decided that a market value deal was actually orth it in this case??

I absolutely believe that could happen. That would be a fair offer. But my question is why would Riley sign before FA period if he was awash in interest?

Remember, I always wanted Riley back but felt that both parties needed to see what his market value was. I also always felt he would be back. If this rumor is true, that is exactly what happened.

Apparently you have never worked in sales, which is what agents do basically.

When you have a product (in this case riley) And you have some one that wants that product but doesnt want to match your price. All it really takes is the right counter bidder to get what you want. I did it all the time selling bikes. My counter bidder didnt even need the credit to afford what i wanted to sell it for. I just needed him to sit on it while i talked to the guy who DID have the credit to buy but didnt want to match my price. Eventually some one was going to pay what i wanted or close to it.

I also remember those customers that claimed they could always get a better deal, but always came back once they really checked things out. What I did then is what I suggest the redskins do now with Riley: don't panic.

Yea, but if you were a good salesman, you always got your price or close to it. Especially if what you were selling was in limited quantity. Of which actual starting ILBs are at a premium at the moment.

Maybe, maybe not. I just don't have the same sense that Riley is as well thought of as you around the league. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. I've also said this all along. Riley is more valuable to the skins than any other team. This is why I've always felt they would resign him. I'll go out on a limb and say when they do, the contract will be closer to what they originally offered (5-5.5m) that what Riley originally wanted (7m).

Im going to say they split the difference and the deal comes in to average $6 million a year which is fair for both sides. Personally i think Riley is actually better than a few of the guys who got paid more, but being on a 3-13 team hurts his value. I will say that of the guys in the $7 million a year range, I would not have paid that for any of them.
