At one point in the 2000s it seemed like his career was over. He went from being a pretty good actor in the 90s to the pretty boy that continuously took on terrible movies and cashed in without putting in any real effort.

Then out of nowhere he came out with Lincoln Lawyer (underrated movie, underrated performance). Then Killer Joe, then Mud (another great, borderline Oscar worthy performance), and now he has an Oscar for best actor (Dallas Buyer's Club), one of the top TV shows airing (True Detective), and an upcoming film with Christopher Nolan (Interstellar) set to release later on this year

He was good way before Lincoln Lawyer. I'd suggest you check out his roles in Contact, Amistad, U-571, Edtv and We Are Marshall. But yeah, I agree.....he certainly has come a long way.

Oh I had much respect for him in the 90s. Always thought highly of him. One of my favorite roles of his was in A Time To Kill.

What doesn't make sense is on this board, plenty of people agreed he didn't have range as an actor. I strongly disagree with that, think he has more than enough range and we're seeing that with his recent movies.

this man just oozes cool whenever he talks.

I really like Mud, but thats when he really plays who he is with his southern drawl. He just got too much grief from men about taking his shirt off so much that I really never paid much attention, but this guy is cool. His speeches are alright alright alright. He really should be considered like James Dean or Elvis to male movie watchers.

Agreed, guy seems to get the job done and aint afraid of a failing show or two. Gets to write his own ticket now. Choose what he wants to do and when. Great family guy, loved the Oscar speech and look forward to watching whatever he does. Long way from his "alter ego" in Ted Nugent I spose. Wonder if their neighbors?

HA!

AND a UT grad to boot. :suds:

I just seen something on tv about him where the cops came and arrested him for playing bongo drums in the nude. This must have been some years ago. He definitely marches to a different drummer.

I liked the story. How the lives of those two little kids were pretty much Muds life when he was growing up like they were all on the same path.

Yeah, I figured that out... after a while... Still was expecting more, especially considering how hyped it was. Which usually means it won't do well
