Hahaha... By accident??? That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard... Yea he just happened to step INTO the player with his shoulder ON ACCIDENT...

I love how Harbaugh was staring right at the incident and just turns a blind eye

A few things on this. From my understanding a player/coach standing on the sideline is not required to move if a player comes off the field of play. So in that sense the 49er player I am guessing was not in violation of the NFL rules with where he was standing and the fact that he did not move.


Having said that the lowering of the should might have been a bit much but then again a guy running at you with pads on my guess is my first reaction is to lower my shoulder into them to take the brunt of the hit.


I have no problem with the NFL not punishing the 49ers for this play.

My guess is it was a warning to tell players that they should work to get out of the way than to lower their shoulder into a player. The guy went overboard with holding his position but legally by NFL rules from what I understand he did nothing wrong. Him stepping over the line after being hit can be accredited to just being hit by a guy so it is considered accidental.

In what physics book do you find someone 'standing their ground' and taking a hit actually falling toward the object of impact? He was the aggressor and there can be no other way of looking at it.

All I can say is SF better hope they don't find one of their players running loose on our sidelines after that.

At 1:18 or so you can see the SF player to the far right of the screen with his shoulders square to the player... Then he turns and steps into the player. Pretty obvious he knew what he was doing.

Now yes the player took it too far but my guess is as a football player especially that is even more of their instinct to react in such a way.

I don't think there was any intent, but it doesn't matter IMO. If he deliberately laid him out it is deserved for running 5 yards out if bounds.

Yeah, that was intentional. Had the guy not seen the runner, he'd have been knocked to the ground but instead he braced himself for the impact.

He wasn't a player. He was an unnamed member of their staff. Still, doesn't matter to me really. It happened and it's old news. The league gave them a warning and that's that.

Yes it was dirty, but would you expect anything else from Jumpin Jimmy's team....They knew they couldn't win playing fair so they cheat and whine....It's the 4whiners way....

I watched the whole clip and yes this kind of thing happens. I understand he got pushed out of bounds but tons of players do throughout the season and find a way to weave around players or work as hard as possible to get back into the field of play. There is a reason they penalize players for staying on the sideline too long actually.

They got just a warning because there wasn't really any evidence that he intentionally put himself in a position to disrupt and hit the guy. It wasn't like the Jets or Tomlin case where the evidence is pretty strong that they positioned themselves in a way to interfere with the play.

Maybe it's just rosed color fan glasses but I thought he just bracing and protecting himself the hit and it looked worse than it was because the gunner was still a little off balanced when he got hit.

I mean when you think about it it's a natural reaction to tense up, expose your side, and brace for impact when you're expecting to get hit and don't have the time to avoid the blow.

He intended to do it, but I think it's the player's responsibility to stay on the field of play...he didn't try to hold him down, etc. 49ers shouldn't get any discipline.
