Jamarcus Russell, Alex Smith, David Carr, Mike Vick, Tim Couch, Steve Emtman, and Jeff George were all #1 overall picks. All are busts; yet, we have had Andrew Luck and Cam Newton taken #1 since then.

There have been good backup QBs too such as Steve Young, Colin Kaepernick, and Kurt Warner.

True. But for every backup that proved out to be a competent starter, there are 4 or 5 that bombed. As mentioned above, when Kirk got a chance the last 3 games, he did not look special, but rather ordinary. There was nothing to indicate that he could come into a situation like Cleveland and turn it around. Teams have to be wary of spending valuable resources on back up QBs after the big misses we have seen in the last 5 years.

Not sure if this is directed at me or not, but I agree. Don't think I ever said he wasn't.

Matt Schaub was a successful backup. You may want to look at his statistics in ATL.

for the record, i totally agreed with your 3rd, conditional for Cousins...

I'm not buying into someone giving up a 2nd(although it isn't totally impossible)

also i'd pull the trigger on a 3/4th for this year.

Exactly why we won't get a second. Because too many backup QBs that were thought to be starter material and traded for have failed. If we get a 3rd and a conditional pick based on performance, then that is a good deal for both.

i can see us getting that but that conditional wont be a 2nd or 1st rounder like GK is squawking about

the browns are right there for their pick of qbs and firepower to move up if needs be

you might get a conditional 3rd or 4th but no way do you get a 1st or 2nd

Id trade him for a third. And I don't really think we'll get anything more than that.

This is NOT the season to consider a trade of KC. This team just bought in a HC who's known for his ability to garner improvements out of the QB position. He'll institute a new or hybrid system that is probably more QB friendly as well. Couple that with the number of QB's that's going in the 1st round in may, sophomore blues and potential upgrades, especially at WR an OL, and the questionable health of our starter, what do you get??? O.P.P.O.R.T.U.N.I.T.Y...........something that last season didn't give this team with respects to KC.

I was not going to mention this, but second thoughts on this thread compels me to write a bit more about potential trades. I know that the contrarians are going to beat the hell outta me for this but it must be said. Here are the most trade worthy players on this team and my position as to the teams possible moves.

RGIII................Tradable, not going to happen.
K. Cousins.........Untradeable for more than a 4th round this year, exactly what was paid to get him.
A. Morris...........Tradable, consider the offer and potential replacement.
P. Garcon..........Tradable, deep draft, consider offer if mid to late 1st rounder.
T. Williams........Tradable, Not going to happen.
J. Reed.............Value not determined, untradeable.
R. Kerrigan........As LB-untradeable, DE-second rounder therefore untradeable.
B. Orakpo..........Free agent.......sign and trade only, probably won't get a 1st round pick for him.

That's it, nobody else is trade worthy for value or in a lot of instances starter worthy here. That said IF I were endorsing a trade it would involve either A. Morris or P. Garcon

I would not pull the trigger for JUST a 3rd or 4th. That's not worth it for a guy that is capable of being a starter.

Just because there are the top two QBs in this draft, doesn't make them better than KC. Bridgewater is going to be a bust...Manziel is a headcase and is short (but has ability).

There is a lot of people in the NFL that would disagree with this assessment. Most teams would value both of these guys over KC, especially since he didn't play all that well in the 3 games he was a starter.

Beyond that it doesn't really matter if Bridgewater and/or Manziel turn out to be busts. In this case - all that matters is that several teams will draft both of the very high (along with some other QBs) & retain them for at least 2-3 yrs thereby negating any interest in Cousins. It is very likely that the Browns will be one of those teams (or they will draft some other QB very high).

Now that KS has been hired in Cleveland, let the rumors begin...

So now since Kyle Shanahan has been hired by Cleveland, what does that mean for Kirk Cousins?

probably its unknown . if i am the redskins i would think long and hard about a trade for KC . if you trade him then the only option you have is to try and keep rex (doubtful). or perhaps rex goes to cleveland (very possible )

so the browns may simply draft manzel and sign rex as the BU or they could trade for KC :noidea:

There are plenty of capable guys that can play BU QB in the league. Guys who just can't get over the hump to be an every week starter, and guys whose time has passed, but can still produce in a pinch. Then there is the simple debate of drafting yet another 4-7 rounder who could turn into something special. Aaron Murray and Logan Thomas have both been mentioned. I would love for Washington to draft Thomas (homer glasses on :smokin:). He has all the physical tools and potential to be very very very good. A more athletic Roethlisberger. He just needs the right coach (ing) and development process.

Rex will never be back, unless as a coach. He is done. The only thing he has lifted in the last 2 years is a fork. We should look to pick up a QB either late in the draft or as an UDFA.

There is a lot to wonder about the QB position in Washington and not sure a 3rd or 4th round draft choice is worth it to reduce the number to one.

Understand homerism but Logan Thomas wasn't that good in college and is predicted to be a 7th round or FA draft choice. Now if the Redskins can stink at the right time in two or three years they could draft Christian Hackenburg. :hope: Although I don't think I would wish that on him.
