Mitz.... I think he could bring in some good coaches. The problem becomes you cant change everything and not expect things to get worse before they have a chance to get better. And if things get worse, I dont think we have the owner or fan base to sit back and wait for it to get better. And honestly I dont think Gruden as a new HC should be sharing his vision of the defense. The DC should have total say on the defense. I think that was the biggest problem with Shanahan as far as the defense went.

I don't think it's as much of Gruden "sharing his vision of the defense" as it is, Gruden sharing his vision of the type of players and coaches he wants on his team.

IN which case I fully expect Haslett to be retained. they have worked together before. Odds are both knows what the other expects. And I think that Gruden is smart enough to realize that whole sale change does more harm than good in most cases. As i showed in another thread. Reality is, our defense actually improved in most areas from 2012-2013... our offense regressed. Yet every one wants to fire all the coaches just so they can feel better about the direction the team is going in. Makes no sense.

And in sports... it usually fails just like in business.

Not true. Chrysler and Apple are companies that Cousin Eddie would say were "in the shitter" before new upper management came in to save the day...i.e HC.

I believe this team has the nucleus of players to win, with the right head manager of course.

Apple and Chrysler didnt bring in a new HC who then fired all the department heads at one time. Sorry gdude, I have been at companies that tried that. Ever heard of PSINet?? They were one of the largest Internet providers in the country. they tried it your way, and inside of six months they failed spectacularly.

And I wont even begin to mention the Raiders, who have been perennial fuckups for taking this exact same approach under Al Davis numerous times.

Again you keep pointing out the exceptions. What on earth makes you think that Dan Snyder is that patient or that lucky??

All I am saying is in sports today, it happens. And, I believe Dan as an owner, has gotten a lot better in letting football guys run his business...but, when they screw up like Shanahan, he cuts bait and moves forward.

People hit the lottery too. But the majority of us have to be a bit more pragmatic and not sink all our hopes on a powerball ticket. And if Snyder or Bruce Allen fully believed Haslett was the problem, he would have been fired three weeks ago right?? And if Gruden really thought Haslett didnt deserve a shot, as a friend he would have cut him loose already to atleast give him a shot at landing another gig. Its a dick move to hold onto him if you plan to fire him and lessen his chances of finding another gig else where. Out of friendship and respect if Gruden doesnt plan to hold onto him, he would have cut bait by now wouldnt you agree??

I act like wholesale change for shock value fails more often than it works out. I act like i have seen where a rookie HC comes in with a rookie DC and OC and the team flames out spectacularly. And you guys are acting like any one on the planet would be better than Haslett. I simply remind you that the same was said about Rob Ryan in Dallas last year, and Danny Smith as our special teams coach. Now I know Haslett has not fielded a top ten defense, but we have had some solid outings. And I think if given the right pieces, he can do well enough for this team to actually improve this year. I just dont really see that happening in an environment of total change like most of you propose.

I never said Haslett would not be retained. I think he stays, and that is not a bad thing IMO.

Side note... When I asked for a name, I was asking for some one to give me a name of an available DC who could have done better with what Haslett had to work with. And you are likely off your rocker if you think its a good idea to have a Rookie Head coach, Rookie DC and likely a Rookie OC and expect this team to actually do better.

Who or whatever athletes point to in the sky could not have done anything with this defense. Probably could have gotten them to walk on water, but tackle, defend the pass, insist on playing in the position defense best suited for them, sitting the old and playing more youth................NAW!!!!!!
