shark what are your expectations for next season ? because from where i am sitting we are looking at 3 years to be competitive .

we have maybe 9 players who are above avg at their positions and one of them you would argue isnt

why not go with some younger coordinators ?

haslett has proven in his hole career to be mediocre . i dont see the point in going forward with him . i would rather see a guy who brings an aggressive 3-4 to the table rather then this passive kind

if i am going to lose then i want to lose by taking the initiative not sitting back and let offenses dictate to me

If we are looking at 3 years to be competitive, then we will be looking for another QB. Reality check, we got two years left on Griffins rookie deal. If Im his agent and this team finishes 6-10 or worse again next year, Im telling my client to prepare to get out of dodge. Sure the Skins could franchise tag him. But Im sorry thats a key to disaster.

But as I said, I hope you get your wish and we bring in the rookie DC. So I especially dont want to hear a word of complaint from you when it fails. Deal??

And my point is and always has been

1. There isnt a better DC that will work for Snyder available

2. Odds are we will bring in a rookie DC, so the chances of our defense being worse that last year in that situation are pretty good.

3. The quickest way to make this team even worse is whole sale change just for the sake of appeasing the masses.

Now we fired the HC and the OC who gave us the most productive Offense we have had in DC since 1999. And we did that to appease the QB for the most part. The DC was handed almost no talent in the secondary, and suspect talent on the D-line, yet we feel the need to scape goat him as well and basically gut the entire coaching staff. Any one thinking this works out well for Griffin, Gruden or the team isnt thinking logically. If you got a rookie HC and OC, you better atleast have a middle of the pack DC. Most teams that gut the entire coaching staff, are in the same position four years later.

If it takes three years to be come competitive several things will happen. All will not be well in Snyderville and fans and media will be calling for a new coach and GM.

i for one wanted to keep mike and kyle. i just want haslett out. i dont necessarily want a rookie dc i just want someone not named haslett, preferably someone with a higher ceiling. gruden was in my final four for hc candidates. i think him and rg3 will have success together. i wouldnt mind mcvay as our oc.
that's where i stand.

Ageed. Had we kept Mike and Kyle, then firing Haslett would have been an option and the likely call. But seriously, you CANT fire the entire coaching staff and expect improvement. There has got to be some kind of consistency on atleast one side of the ball. And I honestly dont think Hasletts defense was bad because of him or his scheme. I think he was handed sub standard players at key areas. We spent the bulk of the money on the offense and told the defense to change schemes and make due. Now it would be worse off now to say change both the offense, defense and special teams all at once. We got two years max to fix this, or we will be looking at another turnover. Give Haslett the players he needs to actually run a 3-4 and he can field a decent unit. He did in 2011. And going into our 7 game streak last year the defense was actually pretty good. And I stand by the comment that when people say well no one could do worse than (insert name) they generally end up wrong. I bet most of us would have kissed Danny Smiths arse to have him back this year.

I could be wrong, but didn't the Chiefs have an entire new coaching staff this season?

Andy Reid retained the LB Coach, DB coach, and defensive quality control. So basically he kept 3/4 of the defensive staff in place. He brought ina new DC, but didnt totally change the entire defensive staff as many are screaming we must do.

well that goes to a fan base and expectations again that are simply not realistic

now you didnt say this so ignore the quote thing but wasnt the thing going on before we hired a new coach that no one would want to coach here ? yet we get a top candidate and i said candidate

so why would a guy looking for a chance not want to coordinate here ?

Gruden is 6 time arena football champion. A superbowl champion coach with the bucs. And oc for 3 years what has jason garret done backup for aikman point is there worse coaches in this league then gruden. All great coaches start somewhere . Gruden will have a great staff with or without haslett because gruden is a'winner and a'champion he knows what it takes

Now here is the real question for you Skinsdad.

If Gruden decides to keep Haslett, will it be because he wanted to keep him. Or will it by Snyder meddling and not wanting to pay off another coach that wont be working here??

To assume that a predominantly all new coaching staff will not succeed in its first season, is just nonsense. Do any of us really know? How about San Fran with Harbaugh or KC with Andy? Or, Gus with Auburn!

The success of our new HC will come down to management, his management. Will he hire the right assistants to teach his vision? If he does, and he lets his assistants do their jobs...then good things are on the horizon for this team.

HTTR!

Mitz... reality is, the majority of teams that go all in and gut the coaching staff, generally do worse not better. Yes there are exceptions to every rule. But do you honestly think, a Rookie HC, new systems across the board and new coaches at every position is going to work in DC?? Sure we can hope it would work. But reality is, Gruden will spend the first two years just trying to build HIS team on both sides of the ball. Not good.

By the way Mitz, to assume that a totally new coaching staff will succeed in a short amount of time is actually folly. You dont walk into your business, fire every one and hire a new staff and expect operations to run smoother.

Shark, I'm not so sure Gruden will have all new coaches across the board. He has a history with Haslett. And, IMO I think he's a pretty good coach...just not the best roster over the last few years. If Haslett shares the same vision as Gruden, I think he stays...if not, we will have a new DC in Washington.

Do you not think that Gruden has the connections to bring in some pretty good coaches for his staff? I do.

Mitz.... I think he could bring in some good coaches. The problem becomes you cant change everything and not expect things to get worse before they have a chance to get better. And if things get worse, I dont think we have the owner or fan base to sit back and wait for it to get better. And honestly I dont think Gruden as a new HC should be sharing his vision of the defense. The DC should have total say on the defense. I think that was the biggest problem with Shanahan as far as the defense went.
