Mel Kiper is now my favorite expert after seeing his mock

1. Houston Texans: Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A&M
New Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien worked with Tom Brady in New England and knows what it takes to be an elite quarterback in the NFL. Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel has all the raw talent to be a star at the next level, and Houston has the need for a franchise QB.
If Manziel shows well at the combine and during his individual workouts, Kiper will be correct in his belief that the former Heisman Trophy winner will go No. 1 overall.

Big discussion about that on sportstalk radio on the drive home yesterday...they interviewed some local sportalk guy in HOU and he thinks it could happen, but is leaning towards smoke screen.

Hometown kid, in need of a franchise QB. The jersey sales will bring in so much money on it's own. I talked in another thread about the offense around him and with their new coach and how well he works with QB's. It may be risky since he's not your prototypical #1 overall QB, but he's apart of the new era of QB's in todays day and age.

Not sure we will pass on Barr if he is still there at 6th, but can't go wrong with either him or Clowney.

Barr is in the mold of Aldon Smith imo...at this level I think has to play next to a stud DT like Justin...I would take him too, but Clowney is more of a traditional 4-3 DE...if either make it that far it will be interesting to see if TD can convince Blank to take b/c passed on his end of season presser he wants protection for Matt...which I think he can get @ 37.

The TX tie is in part driving this I 'm sure but HOU doesn't really need a ticket seller (maybe JAX)...he just has that OAK persona...either way...the bowl game launched him into the top 15 I think.

Ekpre-Olomu will return to school, IIRC.

I might be too high on Sammy Watkins but I dont think he lasts until 13.

I haven't actually watched much of Obguehi. He is someone I need to look at but A&M has had a string of excellent tackles

Good pickup...have to change that one...Watkins...that would be major to get the #1 OT and WR...I could see DET wanting a better #2 opposite Megatron but they do need back 4 help, and LB imo.

Definitely did, but think the Houston connection will help him.

I just saw that you had Tuitt at 8. That is really high for him, imo. I don't really see any skills with him that jump out and say 'Im a first rounder'

Maybe...you may have the luxury of seeing more than a bowl game or a few key games for these guys...admittedly I watch mostly SEC when I do watch CFB...all of the big boards I watch have Tuitt as a 1st rounder...one blogger I respect a lot for the Steelers thinks he's equal to if not better than Hageman. Idk if that's true or not, but unless he has a terrible combine I think he'll go in the top 20 picks.

Just had to say...

How could you not love this guy?

Dominique Easley: If his knee is 100% he's going to be a steal.

Too high: Manziel, Carr, Van Noy, Gilbert, Clinton Dix, Tuitt, Mettenberger

It would be great if Manziel dropped to late 1st round, but it just won't happen. Too many teams need a QB and someone will pick him up. I have mixed feelings on him, but he does have a very accurate arm.

Of course the Browns will choose him, they have been waiting for a player like this to change the franchise around and a player that will sort of put them closer to the spotlight. This will either be a great pick or an awful one and by the way most of their picks have gone it most likely won't be good.

But can't wait for the NFL Draft, should be one of the best in some years!

What round do you think he'll be drafted in? I think he's a Rd 3-4 kind of guy

I don't know where he WILL be drafted, but I think he should be drafted in the top 50 picks. He's bigger & faster than Jordan Matthews, and he's displayed very good ball skills IMO. When people see him run they don't realize how big the guys is; his listed height / weight is slightly bigger than Julio Jones.

If he's a 3rd-round pick he's a steal IMO. At 149 it's grand theft WR.

I like his physicality, size and strength. He seems like a 'body catcher' and that negates his height, imo. He is a project but could absolutely be a steal like a Colston.

Like Keenan Allen from last year, his tape suffers from 'crappy QB' syndrome.

With Lombardi behind the wheel I wouldn't be surprised if he fails miserably in the draft... See JaMarcus Russell
