They say PIT is mathmatically still alive in the playoff race? However slim the chances are, I still don't understand why they aren't eliminated? They would need both Miami & Baltimore to lose out. But even so, best case scenario for PIT would put all 3 at 8-8 in which Miami would hold the h2h tiebreaker over PIT. I'm pretty sure the Bills & the Jets (Miami's final 2 games) have something to do with it. They are still in the race for the AFCN as well with a 3-2 divisional record, and 1 last division game against the Browns remaining. BAL & CIN play in week 17 as well. If CIN wins then that would put both of those teams at 3-3 divisional records, and if PIT beats CLE then they go to 4-2 in the division.

Confusing...

Anyone care to explain?

I saw a graphic on the local news this morning on how it could still happen.

It ain't happening. We are simply on a quest to ruin draft positioning at this point.

I must have missed it? What station was it on?

I was under the assumption that Miami would have needed to lose to NE in order for PIT to have a chance. But since they won i thought PIT would be automatically eliminated.

yep, i think if a few different teams tie for the last WC spot at 8-8, if it's the right mixture of teams, somehow the steelers get in but it's a real longshot. football outsiders has them as a 1.6% chance to make the WC.

I think I got it figured out.. The Dolphins & Ravens need to lose out, and the Jets & Steelers need to win out. Putting MIA, PIT, NYJ all at 8-8. The Jets would then hold the divisional tiebreaker over Miami, and PIT would take the tiebreaker over the Jets because of a better conference record.

San Diego would also have to lose one of their remaining two games for PIT to get in. Quite a long shot and a lot of help is needed, so it isn't likely, but there is a chance.

Yea I know it isn't going to happen! I was just confused as to why in the hell analysts were still listing PIT as "in the hunt" because I couldn't figure out the scenario.
