Stafford hasn't always been throwing him the ball. The 0-16 year he had a bunch of scrubs tossing it to him. That excuse is weak.
Who had Fitzgerald had that was respectable? A washed up Kurt Warner? Stafford isn't elite but he has the arm to get a lot of jump balls to Calvin.
The explosion and range he has to adjust horizontally to passes. The amount of range he has from the second the ball is released the athletic ability to adjust his body for it, combined with the best hands in the league to make those tough grabs consistently, is unmatched.
Fitzgerald.

Stafford doesn't shy away from just chucking it to Calvin, that's for sure. Tied for the league lead in targets. I'd agree that Fitz has better hands. Never had thought of him as an equal or a superior range guy though. CJ is an absolute freak physically. A good number of his grabs are on very poorly underthrown balls. But maybe that isn't range as much as it is reading and reacting.
He had Warner for more games than Megatron has had Stafford. Dan Orlovsky ? Daunte Culpepper ?
But they had a lot of hang time. I'm talking over the entire range of throws, especially hard ones. Calvin can't stop on a dime and get extended the opposite direction like Larry can.
I don't know man. Stafford gets bailed out A LOT by CJ. Dead sprints, complete stops and coming back to get the ball is not uncommon. I can see Fitz getting an edge in quickness and everything that comes with it though. I mistake CJ and Brandon Pettigrew more than I'd like to admit since Calvin is so big. (Not in performance, but 81 and 87 look similar and they're comparable in size)
I've always thought that Stafford would be a pretty mediocre qb without Johnson.

He did. But the difference is that stafford always gave his guy a chance with a lot of air under it and time to react. That's better than what Fitz has ever had to work with. Fitz can adjust more to throws all over the field, not just bombs.
1. Calvin Johnson
2. Julio Jones
That is all.
