Top 4 teams at this time, by record. - list of opponents number of wins.

9-0 KC - 30

9-1 Seattle - 36

8-1 Denver - 34

7-2 New England - 34

Note: Seattle has one more game - subtract their recent game, they would be identical - 34

What does this mean? I think you could say that KC has had the weaker schedule but beyond that, strength of schedule has had little impact (with tunnel vision)

Note: none of these teams have played each other yet. Next week Denver vs. KC, NE vs. Car then Denver
Seattle plays 2-win Minnesota then the strength of schedule totals will reverse!

What do you get out of this?

I don't buy into the notion that KC has only played garbage and their record doesn't mean anything because of it. Winning every week in the NFL is just hard. Doesn't matter who you are playing.

There is lots of time left for the top tier to sort themselves out. All I see in that list is the parity in the league.

Nothing?? These teams are beating who they're supposed to beat. They have no control who their opponents are and what records they have.

Most interesting is that strength of schedule will flip and then even out and they will all have to play tougher a tougher schedule coming up. I'm saying things might change dramatically, or maybe not. Maybe these are the teams to beat?

Oh, I agree then. KC and Denver have yet to see each other, but Seattle still have a relatively easier schedule down the stretch than they did in the first half.

You make a good point that winning nine in a row, regardless of the opponents, is difficult and that KC deserves credit for having done that. Personally, I will be very surprised if they make it ten in a row at Denver next week.

I expect you to split but - Peyton looked beat up and even dazed during the post game interview. Now he is going to play a very tough defense. It would be no shock that Denver would lose this. IMHO

Yeah, we really miss Ryan Clady at LT. Hali and Houston will be a challenge that we will have to account for. I don't think that KC has a good enough offense, though. We shall see. Can't wait.

What makes this matchup with Denver interesting is odds are that KC won't be rushing more than 4 most of the time as usual, but those 4 will almost always consist of Hali, Poe, and Houston which is quite a trio. Pressure from the left, the middle, and right side.

Agreed. Winning 9 in a row is hard and beating top teams in their house is even harder. Denver twice in 3 games will tell us all a lot about both teams. Should be interesting.

Would it be possible to redo that list with only counting opponents' wins against other non-common opponents? For example it would be silly to count the Jax win because they played a team that the KC also has played and even if Jax loses that game, that would only mean that Tennessee would get a win and the KC opponent win # stays the same

I hear what you are saying - that is the nature of statistics. It is likely that all this will flip over in the next week or two. It still makes for interesting discussion, no?
The point remains that these teams are closer than people think. They will see a level of competition next 2 weeks that will tell us more.....

If my math is correct, your opponents, at the end of the season, are guaranteed 63 wins simply by playing your other opponents. Which of course means they are also guaranteed 63 losses. The fact that KC is over the halfway point and their opponents only have 30 wins tells me that KC has almost quite literally played nobody. Maybe if I get bored enough I'll try to take out those wins from each four of these teams' opponents

Or another way to look at it is wins by teams these 4 teams have actually BEAT.

KCs wins have come vs teams with 30 wins
Denvers wins have come vs teams with 28 wins
Seattles wins have come vs teams with 30 wins
NEs wins have come vs teams with 24 wins wins

Im not sure why Seattle, NE and Denver would get credit for LOSING games vs good teams. All 4 of these teams wins come vs teams that are roughly averaging 3.5 wins for the year so far. Id guess its probably about the same for the 6 win teams too.
