Since when did manning win a SB with an elite defense?

2006 NFL Team Total Stats - National Football League - ESPN

They had the 21st ranked defense when they won the SB.

It certainly played like one in the post season. Held Kansas City to 8 points in the Wild Card round. Did not allow a TD to the Ravens in the second round. Gave up 17 points to the Bears in the Super Bowl but 7 of those were the result of a kickoff run back for a touchdown.

The only game they weren't elite in was the AFCCG against that Brady guy that so many seem to think is mediocre.

They may have gotten on a nice streak as a unit, but to call them elite is a stretch. An elite defense can be so for multiple years, ie. Pittsburgh, Baltimore

An elite team is like a finely tuned machine, it takes multiple mechanics keeping it in top form, when parts begin to wear they are replaced, it requires a dedicated team to provide top quality replacements, and a master mechanic with foresight, vision and a keen eye for chemistry. Qualities such as these are rare and highly sought after, keeping a machine like this intact in this day and age is a complex endeavor, virtually every member is a free agent.

Damn I love football.

Both Brady and Peyton have only won a Super Bowl with an elite defense. They both have zero wins without the elite defense. After 2004, Brady is a worse playoff quarterback than Manning. If we're talking about anything after 2004, Manning has objectively been the better playoff quarterback.

You could say that with any SB winning QB. When was the last time a QB absolutely carried a team through the playoffs while his defense gave up a points?

In 2010, the Packers held opponents to 17 points average through the playoffs. And in the SB, a defensive TD turned out to be the difference.

It was one of the best Super Bowls I have witnessed. Of course I was drunk as shit but I usually am during the Super Bowl. :suds:

One of the two times during his 9 Super Bowl run games he threw for more than 240 yards. He actually had more games under 150 yards. Dude carried those teams.

No one says Brady carried those teams. Sounds to me like you hear what you want to hear.

The fact is, if Bledsoe doesn't go down in 2001, Miami wins the East and The Patriots don't even make the playoffs. Tom Brady doesn't have to "carry" a team to make an impact. Excellent pocket presence, smart adjustments, accurate throws, strong leadership, etc…these are the things one wants in a QB - not a guy who chucks it deep every play.

And yet…his defense bailed him out over and over. 3 TDs and 7 INTs

Watching the games helps.

I would like to say, though, that the OP is foolish. Peyton doesn't have to prove anything to anyone. He's one of the greatest to ever suit up.

Peyton Manning never played with an "elite" defense his whole time in Indy.

Hey cwood, sup man. You are right, but that applies to most if not all SB winners. If the D doesn't step up at the right time you are toast.

That's my entire point, actually. We use the results of games played by 104 different people and focus on 2 or 3 plays out of thousands to create misleading narratives for quarterbacks.

Elite is an overrrated word. Some teams get hot at the right time. Not only was the Colts D great that post season, the run offense kicked in when it needed to.

Forget elite my friend, it does not mean anything. The only reason the Colts won that SB was because of the D and run game. Peyton had I think one decent game in that post season

Imagine the disappointment of all the Manning lovers when he throws a pick 6 in the SB to lose the game. I so look forward to that and the excuses that will follow.

BTW if any team at this point should be in the SB it would be the Bronco's. Anything other then a Championship should be regarded as a failure of a season.

Hmm, isn't that what they say about the Pats or any contender?

As much as I love to see my home team be in it I am not banking on the Pats getting to the SB this year.

Fair enough, but then the two SBs Pats lost with Brady under the helm were failures too?

I would say one. That freak show vs the Giants was the luck of the century. Otherwise I agree
