Release the Kraken - Fuck the Canucks
First things first.
Jahii, get lost. No, really. This is the UW board and your constant replies with why our views are wrong doesn't belong here. Sure, other ASU fans can chime in as we expect most of them understand what is and is not acceptable on other team boards, but jahii seems to have no filters.
This is a match up of two teams that have had offensive production and do it in different ways. ASU will pass more and take their shots down field and of course UW has been living off of big plays in the running game and screen passes and sideline routes. ASU's overall offensive stats have been above UW's, but UW's defense is quite a bit ahead of theirs. On defense UW leads the conference in pass defense while both teams are lower part of the pac in run defense (8th and 9th).
We all know you have to look at the match ups to evaluate a game and I see UW getting the better of both main units. Wilcox will make the adjustments needed to keep ASU's passing game from getting the explosive plays they are used to. He talked extensively about the errors in the Oregon game and I agree they were simple mistakes here and there that were out of character for what they had done year to date. You can't be half a step off with Oregon or you are toast. On offense they have been consistent all year. Oregon was for sure Price's worst game and it still wasn't horrible and Sankey just does his thing every game no matter who they play.
Sark has so many weapons and we have all been waiting for them to feature KW and ASJ more and if you don't do it in a game you say is key to your season then when will you? ASJ has been open a lot and the game plans have just not been putting him in as a primary target much. Some of it has been the teams we have played as of late. Many TE routes take longer to develop and are not ideal for quick strikes and KP hasn't had the same time in the pocket against those last two defenses. If I was Sark I'd open with a lot of the same sets they have been running and get Sankey going while doing a lot of quick strikes to Ross, Smith, and Mickens. Then use that to get match up that leave KW and ASJ with big looks down field.
On defense you know ASU isn't going to get big time numbers in the running game which should free up Shaq to drop back more and help on coverage. I'm sure they will work on the same sort of contain looks they had so much success with against Boise State, Idaho State, and Illinois.
Want a short version? Both teams are better at pass defense than rushing and UW runs the ball more. UW leads the conference in pass defense and ASU passes more than runs. ASU's scoring defense is 9th (27ppg) in the conference while UW is 4th (20ppg). The story of this game is who's defense will match up better and I like our chances against a pass heavy team more than their defense against the run.
I have this game as UW 38 and ASU 27.
