I think in cases like this, the law should allow the family to decide the perpetrators fate

They should give him one hour to do whatever his religion requires a condemned man to say or do, then take him out and shoot him repeatedly until he dies.

That's how I feel about it.

I remember when my own son was 2 years old. He nearly died in the hospital from dehydration. I sat by his hospital bed the whole time he was in the hospital because I was afraid his IV would come out when he rolled over in his bed.

Yeah, I'd probably end up going to jail, too, even though I'd regret having beaten the guy to death later. Nobody in the world is more important to a man than his own son.

This is really horrible.

I just don't know what to even say other than.... RIP little man.

Agreed. I always thought "cruel and unusual" punishment was a stupid law. It only applies to the criminal not the victim.

the only fear would be that some family would go all soft on it..if it were me I would be begging the court to let him go free...for at least 5 minutes

I would NOT want to be a Carolina defensive player Sunday. AD is going to be running with rage I am sure.

I dunno...I'm not entirely convinced its that big of a deal to Peterson...he left the kid to return to his team after a single day ?? I'm not impressed with the commitment to the team here

Just read up on this.

So this dude has had two cases for abuse before this, from his ex girlfriend. He also beat up her 3 year old son. He was allowed to take counseling instead of going to jail, but both those orders have been revoked. He'll spend at least 2 years in jail regardless of this case, so he might not even make it to court.

Unfortunately that is about the only good thing we can say about this. Unfortunate that the little fella had his life snatched away from him but at least he has found peace. We can only feel good about the fact that at least he doesn't have to live the rest of his life in a coma or horribly disfigured or worse.

what jury anywhere would convict a father who killed a man that killed his son ? If I was on that jury it would be an innocent verdict .. to hell with the pos that can do this to any child

I feel that juries are starting to feel more like you do in cases like this.

If I am on that jury they either get acquitted or don't reach a verdict. But even getting convicted I respect the decision and am perfectly OK with the cost of my actions.

That case would never make it to trial. No prosecutor wants to risk losing re-election by charging and attacking the dad. No dad wants to take the chance of that case going to trial (because, despite what you think, if i'm the Prosecutor I can easily find out your thoughts in voir dire. A father of a young kid would never make it on this hypothetical jury). There'd be a second degree manslaughter conviction where the father gets a two or so years in prison.

I'm young and probably wouldn't have a kid, but I would not vote to convict here and I think there is a bigger amount of the population of varied backgrounds who would do the same. A few years would be best for both sides but I am not sure you could weed out all those who would refuse to convict this.

People think this, but i've seen hardened guys in biker shirts or football jerseys damn near cry when asked how they'd feel watching disturbing details of a trial. And i'm not sure it'd be humane to put a young father on a case where they'd likely have to see gruesome photographs of young kids. I worked on a case this past summer that had Prosecutors (ie people who look and gruesome photos and kiddie **** all the time) in tears looking at photos. I can't imagine a young father not used to those things would even be able to function in a case like that.

Also, the Defendant might rather go to prison for a couple of years than go through a trial where they have to be confronted with those images and spend 8-10 months in prison waiting for trial anyways.

that would be very gut wrenching to have to see that stuff...

If it's not you'd have to be pretty twisted. But I'd do it if I had to to make sure a reasonable verdict happens.
