Pearl Jam has longevity. Vedder is a modern Springsteen. They may turn out to be the best of the original grunge bands when it's all said and done.

They are the best grunge band in that genre in my book.

This was the first single off the new album (comes out the 15th I believe). 2 for 2 as far as I'm concerned. I'm seeing them the 18th and possibly the 19th. Great live performers, really don't put out a bad album (every album isn't great but no real stinkers). Love Pearl Jam, glad they're still making music.

I have seen pearl jam four times and it seems like they put on an even better performance each time. I have to agree with Texasman and say they are the best grunge band. Can't wait to see them again on November 8th!

Anybody get the album today? Amazing so far.

This album is fantastic! There are at least four songs that could be wrapped up as radio singles. Has anyone seen the documentary "Pearl Jam Twenty?" It was on VH1 the other day and it is worth watching if you have the opportunity. I missed the first hour and had to stream it on Netflix so I know you can find it there.

PJ20 was real good. If you're a hardcore fan I'd pick up the PJ20 album, collection of great live performances, sound checks etc. As for Lightning Bolt, I would say 6 good to great songs, 4 listenable songs, could get better or worse with time and 2 songs that were filler imo.

Article going over the various albums and stages of PJ's career from Grantland the other day:

Pearl Jam's Career - Overrated, Underrated, or Properly Rated? - Grantland

I am almost exactly with this guy.......Pearl Jam was pretty damn good in the 90s, with albums ranging from legendary to good. But the past 10 or so years of output has been relatively tame. Always good live though.

I don't disagree. Their albums in the 90s you could listen to from start to finish with a few exceptions here and there. 2000's PJ you'd get 3 or 4 good songs per album and then a bunch of mediocre/filler songs. They have a strong enough base catalog to work with that any additional quality songs they put out is just icing on the cake.

That Grantland article is actually why I went back and noticed that I (mostly) missed 2 Pearl Jam albums save the radio singles. I mostly agree with it although I like the self titled album if just for the last 3 tracks (Army Reserve, Come Back, Inside Job)

Man what a show. they played for like 2.45 and just rocked the house.

If you have not seen this band live you need to find a way.

I might have to put that on my bucket list but I think the nearest event is in OKC this tour. Pearl Jam is one of the few bands that might have over 40 songs that I like.
