than Bentley can he? Slay struggled last week and missed some tackles....he was giving up catches but he wasn't panicking and just blatently interfering like Bentley did today. Bentley is a deer in the headlights. I would rather see Slay in the nickle and Bartell back and BB cut.

Thank you

Coach Ed

I agree with you on BB going to the bench. But Green also looked very burnable this pre season. I'd like to Slay get as many reps as he can outside. He isn't looking all that bad out there. Especially for being a rookie in his first two games.

I'm sure it's been said before, but cornerbacks usually take about 3-4 seasons in the NFL to develop. Remember when people in ATL said Houston sucked then he came over and became our best CB? We got him in his 4th season.

And besides, Bentley is essentially still a rookie after missing time last year.

Green was recovering from an injury and wasn't in game shape yet.

Bentley is not making mistakes that are maturity or technique issues or anything that will go away in time. He does not know how to locate the ball. We had another guy like that who could practically run the WRs shirt, but could never get his head around and gave up big completions routinely. Bentley just looks plain bad. It is a total waste of time to cover someone without being able to play the ball.

:10: Exactly, that ball hung in the air for a long time. The fact that he didn't even make an effort to turn his head around tells me he needs to sit down and work on it in practice. Once he is able to do it consistently in practice. Then let him play in the games.

Ok, I am not really sure the details. Just saw what I saw. I am willing to give him a shot over Bentley, that's for damn sure.

The guy on NFL network who was covering the game mentioned something interesting. That Green looked more like natural safety than a CB. Would be interesting if we pulled a spievey on him and gave him a look there.

He's already a great "practice" player. We heard about that all training camp. The media was impressed, the coaches impressed, his teammates were impressed. Everything you heard and read was that he was perfect in the nickel role.

Many on here thought that with the drafting of Slay and how good "Bullet" Bentley was going to be in that nickel role that if Delmas and Quin were healthy we were setting nicely in the back seven and even had good depth.

How's everyone feeling now? The only play Delmas has made of note was a dumb ass trash talking penalty. Slay has been as bad as a rookie so far as Bentley was last year. Our superstar practice nickelback Bill "Bullet" Bentley needs exactly that, a bullet in his ass so he wont be on the field (does anyone know where Aaron Berry is? Maybe he'll shoot him. Better yet, have Plaxico Burress show him how to tuck away a firearm in your pants and maybe the "Bullet" will put a bullet in his own ass).

Should a defensive back have more PI calls than he does passes defended? I'm just curious cause that seems backwards to me. He isnt a very good special teams player either. The only thing he has going for himself are the dreads, and they are a far cry from as impressive as Mathis's are. As a result he should not be on the field.

He didn't turn back because you're not supposed to when you're beat. The ball was underthrown. That was as technique issue in him getting burned earlier. If he has good coverage and can't turn and locate the ball. That is a ball skill issue. This was not.

I don't know where you played ball but you turn and look when the receiver looks...had he done that he couldve batted the ball down(rather easily) like good corners do, he wasn't beat in stride the receiver was waiting for the ball. I know I don't teach my corners to faceguard if they are beat.

:agree: Never heard of a DB not supposed to turn around and locate the football.

Houston's biggest concern coming from atlanta was his head turning. Give bentley time. Remember, he's still essentially a rookie. As far as Green, he looks like a big safety to me, but I like him as a CB too much.

I remember an old coach I used to know that would tell his DB's that if you can't play the ball, play the recievers' eyes. Anything is better than giving up a score, even a penalty.

I played safety for one of the best defensive coaches in division 2 for 2 years. You don't look for the ball when you are best because it slows you down.

I learned the same thing in high school. If you're beat and you turn to look for the ball you'll give up the long catch more often than not.

At that point you're supposed to play the receiver's eyes and face-guard the ball with your body if possible. Bently did just that, but he jumped far too early. He needs to learn to turn and locate once he jumps (assuming he's beat) and avoid contact with the WR at all costs. If you make any contact while face-guarding it's an automatic penalty.

Like RD said, too, Houston could not locate worth a shit when we got him, now he's got it pretty well figured out.

Those of you expecting these rookie and 2nd year DBs to play mistake-free ball are asking too much. Growing pains are a common issue at the position...

How much DB did you play?

Like Quacker said, it's only a situational thing- if you're beat you won't have time to turn and locate on a well-thrown ball.

The play with Bently was fucked up because Palmer lobbed it up there on purpose when he saw that his guy had a step on Bently so that Bently would play through the WR and get the penalty. It was a veteran QB taking advantage of a young DB. It sucked, but it's not the end of the world. If nothing else it should help Bently learn how to read the WR's body language in that situation.

The key for him is just to get to the point where he's not getting beat that bad on double moves.

Also, for as bad as everyone wants to say our DBs looked where was the pass-rush? Palmer had all day to throw the ball out there, nobody was pressuring him. Most professional QBs will pick apart a secondary given that much time.

There's plenty of blame to go around in this loss- coaching, drops, DBs, pass rush, and special teams. My biggest issue is coaching- not scoring a single point on offense in the 2nd half tells me that Arians made far better halftime adjustments than Schwartz did. The lack of scoring falls on Linehan- there's no reason for our offense to get shut out given our weapons. He's a coward who goes vanilla whenever we get the lead. Good things happen when Stafford forces it to Megatron, yet Linehan's game plan seemed to be to ignore Calvin all together in the 2nd half...

Anyone else catch Carson Palmer's comments about the Lions CB's after the game? It was something to the effect of "Their corners don't play the ball, they play the receivers. So we knew if we threw some balls up there, we would draw some PI calls."

CB is actually my favorite position in football and I played a bit of it in High School. Head turning is a major part of being a good one. Houston and Bentley kill me with this crap that they can't locate the ball. Houston has gotten a little better but I think he still has miles to go. When you just play the WR, it makes you look kind of retarded if you ask me.

I hate this secondary at times.
