Playing like a BB 2nd rd pick!! Not even on the field. I don't think I can do another draft with him at the helm, he has fucked up the last 2 pretty bad..

"I don't think I can do..."

If you're this upset about things, it might be time to find a new hobby or a new team to watch. Don't think I've seen a comment out of you yet that was anything but, "The sky is falling!"

Sky is not falling, but time is running out. If you like these drafts and actually think they have improved are secondary....then I will stop posting.

I never expected a 2nd round pick to be an immediate difference maker. Collins in particular is a raw player.
The Patriots have been terrible in drafting DBs and WR. I do not think any Patriots fan will deny that. I find more front office fault in letting Welker and Lloyd get away.

Plenty of 2nd rd talent that ends up starting. Reid, Rambo, Wagnor last yr...We just draft guys in the wrong spots. IDK...getting old for me.

CB Dee Milliner, pick #9 for the Jets, was just benched.
How often does BB play rookies on defense early in the year?

Plenty of eventual all pros who don't do anything their rookie year, and plenty of rookies that start fast and fall off the radar. I'm not saying Collins is going to be an all pro, mind. I'm saying that no matter what the first two weeks of his rookie season look like, good or bad, it's just too early to read anything at all into it.

For what it's worth, over the last four drafts with a full season of performance to look at, the Patriots have four starters picked in the first round, four starters picked in the second round. Devin McCourty, Nate Solder, Chandler Jones, Dont'a Hightower, Sebastian Vollmer, Rob Gronkowski, Brandon Spikes, Shane Vereen. Can you name another team that's pulled off that kind of a haul over the first two rounds of the draft in a four year period?

I know you don't like the hit percent. But they've got a strategy, they stick to it, and it works.

Really, Eric. Your negativity is overplayed. It is getting old. If I wanted to listen to someone bitch, I'd go wake up my wife.

Both were easily the right calls with what the plan they have since shown was in place was. If Welker was a mil a year I wouldn't have taken him back, although Lloyd going took a minute to get used to.

It's fun to look back a year or two and see who we drafted, who was there to draft at that moment, and how the two compare today. Drafts are always a crap shoot none of us complain about taking Brady in the sixth. Sometime you hit others you miss.

There have been a few obvious ones - they took Ras-I Dowling with Jabal (sp?) Sheard still on the board, they took Jermaine Cunningham with Carlos Dunlap still on the board. Then again, a couple of those 'obvious mistakes' have worked out (e.g. All Pro OT Sebastian Vollmer), so...

It comes down to: they have a strategy. It drives fans insane, but it works. They stick to it.

Can't argue the overall success, if BB were horrid at drafting I don't think we would have the success we have now.

Take the last decade, look at overall wins, division wins, AFFCG wins and losses. It's pretty impressive

To compare BB draft picks too guys that have made an impact on there teams with success is unfair to BB. Nobody knew Carlos Dunlap Reid, Rambo, Wagnor would be starters. Its like playing Keno and saying after the winning numbers come out I should have played those numbers. Its not unfair to question BB why he drafted players like Tavon Wilson with a 2rd pick when on most draft boards has him in the 7rd.

The last part is what frustrates us. That and continuous trading down while passing up on talent.

When you watch the draft and the Pats make their pick and the analysts just look at each other with as collective "who?" Then praise the genius.

18 undrafted players playing for us isn't good either.

Dunlap is another of the ones you can actually hold against him. Lots of people were saying Dunlap over Cunningham at the time.

The thing that gets me, and I've said this repeatedly to nothing but silence, is that they came away with eight starters including two All Pros in the first and second round over four drafts. Show me another team that picks up eight starters over two rounds of the draft in a four year period. It never happens.

Their percentage could be improved. They'd be even better if they had hit on more of those picks. But one of the Tavon Wilson-type head scratching reaches is one of the two All Pros out of those 8 picks (Vollmer). They have a plan. They stick to it. It works.

As for the UDFA thing, it's overblown. Of their projected 22 starters, only Thompkins and Ryan Wendell came to the Patriots as undrafted rookies - three others (Dan Connolly, Kyle Arrington, Danny Amendola) were originally UDFAs but signed with the Patriots after playing for other teams for varying periods of time. Of their expected non-starting offense/defense contributors, add Dane Fletcher, Joe Vellano, and Zach Sudfeld. Everyone else is buried on the depth chart or is a special teamer. Thompkins, Wendell, Amendola, Connolly, Arrington, Fletcher, Vellano, and Sudfeld are not the problem on this roster.

I wish they were better at building a roster. They could be better at it! But they're still damn good at it. And the proof is in the pudding - the fact that we'll 'merely' cruise into the playoffs and have a few questions to overcome at that point to actually win the Super Bowl is a disappointment for Patriots fans. What does that say about the quality of the on-field product year in and year out?

Dunlap and Cunningham were drafted to play different positions so its really not apples to apples, but Cunningham was one of those BB reaches that hasnt worked out.
One of the draft blunders I often think of is Chad Jackson over Greg Jennings. WR is Bills worst position to draft right before corner.

(eight starters including two All Pros in the first and second round over four drafts. Show me another team that picks up eight starters over two rounds of the draft in a four year period it never happens) It happens when you let your talent go to other teams and try signing basement bargain free agents and then cut them to ride up the salary cap. Seymour for Vollmer. Both Players pro bowlers. So by letting Brandon Lloyd go And having Aaron Dobson as your starter it makes the Patriots a very good drafting team wow. How I see it as a season ticket holder is BS. You get weak at WR while adding Brandon Lloyd cap hit at 3.5 mil for next two years. The only good thing is Kraft saves that money while showing the fans he is spending to the cap. Dead money.
