Most people. In the media, I cant find one positive article on the Bucs for this upcoming season, its all negative. No One on this board has the Bucs better than 8-8. Most have them at 7-9 or 6-10. I have only found one prediction that has the Bucs with a better than 7-9 record. That was espns today. CBS has 4-12 Jets and 6-10 Bucs.
On this Board people think the Jets will win 5, 6, or 7 games. The few I have seen has the Bucs at 6, 7 or 8 wins. In fact most power rankings and prediction have the Bucs at 21. The Highest I have seen is 19. The Jets meanwhile seem to be #30 in every power ranking. The Bucs are closer to the Jets then the Playoffs most the time and I just dont see how the Bucs are closer to the Jets than a Playoff Spot, even though I am a Biased Homer. Obviously if injuries hit like the last 3 years, then it could be like that.
But the Jets, IMO, have no potential for the 2013 season. On defense...
3-4
DLine - Great. The Strength of the Team. This unit will have to play 100% every play of the season though. With the weakness around them, they have to play over their ability to make up for the lack of LBs and Ss behind them.
Outside Backers - Pace is old and while a good veteran pass rusher, how much does he have left. Plus he has never been the same since his Foot problem. Coples is a great talent but can he even stay on the field? If these guys are 100% and play as well as they can then this becomes a Huge Strength. If injuries hamper and limit one or both these guys then its a Weakness.
Inside Backers - Average. Not quick and not very instinctual. If the Outside backers and Line play above and beyond then they can be the workmans needed. But are very limited.
Corners - At least they have Cromartie. Millner is not ready for the NFL, plays too loose and is an injury waiting to happen. Wilson is a huge bust. I see a hugely disappointing year for the CBs on the Jets outside of Cromartie.
Safeties - Landry has been a streak player but is old now so who knows. I just dont see much talent here. And given the CB situation, they better hope and pray they have no injuries on the DLine or OLB spots.
Forget the Offense. This Defense is a teeter totter. If Coples, Pace, Wilkerson, Ellis and Richardson do not own the game(which they can easily), the Jets will Lose IMO. The Jets remind me a lot of the 2011 Bucs....
The Bucs were 4-2. DT Gerald McCoy got hurt for the year, while at the same time Tanard Jackson was reinstated by the NFL and just Given the starting Job. The Team imploded and Quit. Lost the last 10 games in Horrible Fashion.
If One thing happens to that DLine, this team could implode. Worse yet, if that DLine decides to pack it in then it could get real ugly.
Our CB situation is good... First off, Dee Milliner was known as a physical player in college. The only reason he was playing passive vs the Jags was because he pulled his calf muscle and was trying not to injure it more. Dee sure missed a lot of games in college for a injury prone player.
Kyle Wilson hasn't been great, but his actual CB stats haven't been bad. Darrin Walls has looked great in preseason, he was shutting down the Giants starting WRs last game. Isaiah Trufant is a little baller, Lankster was a decent dime back last season.
Coples gets hurt and now hes injury prone? His injury wasn't serious, he'll be back by week 2 or 3.
We also added Antwan Barnes who is a nice situational pass rusher, has good pass rushing numbers in limited snaps.
At ILB, DeMario Davis is still unknown. Hes not slow, hes fast. Harris has slowed down.
Safety is the biggest concern on defense. They are deep at CB and on the DL. One injury won't make our DL garbage, losing a player like Wilkerson would hurt, but we actually have good depth on the line. Our 2nd unit has looked stout in the preseason. Damon Harrison our backup NT, dominated the Giants starters. Kenrick Ellis looked dominant vs the Lions. Antonio Garay is a solid player who was a top 5 NT a few years ago. Leger Douzable was a good pickup, he has looked great.
