Read option doen't put him in jeopardy. It actually keeps him protected. Gives him more time in the pocket. Time he wouldn't have without the threat of the read option.

He wasn't injured on a read option play. This is what people who make your arguments always seem to either forget or are ignorant of.

You are correct when you say it gives him more time ''back there''. You're talking about when he keeps and passes it. And he's not going to get hurt running it when he hands off. But the reason the read option works is because he also pulls it down and runs himself. If he keeps pulling it down and running, he's going to wreck that knee that has already been operated on twice. I like the kid, so I hope I am wrong, but this is the 2nd time in 5 years he had a season ending injury. What type of offense was his college and pro teams running?

His knee is just as easily wrecked playing traditional QB role. In fact, his last injury took place on a standard pass play. Protection broke down and he took off running.

RG3 needs to take a more active role in his own protection by sliding, running out of bounds and throwing the ball away.

It's not an issue with the offense. He's never been injured on a read option play.

The only problem with the read option in the NFL is that running qbs don't last long. You look at Randall Cunningham, Vick, RG3.....the read option may fool some defenses, but at the NFL level, the DBs and LBs are fast and strong enough to do serious damage to QBs. I think some HCs will use it sparingly knowing the risk factor is too high for injury.

randall cunningham played 16 seasons of pro football . vick is in year 12 steve young played 18 years , fran tarkenton played 18 years elway 16 :lame:

get the point ?

and if you researched anything about the read option you would easily know that hitting the qb every time will draw a flag or our rb will chew you up , or we pass into the area vacated by the guy you send

go back to our "defending the read option thread " both 1 and 2 . get educated about the pistol and read option play then come back and maybe you can talk about the subject with some kind of certainty :L

I dont think the point of hitting a guy like RG3 every time they run it would be to defend the play for no gain. All you have to do is listen to the New Orleans bounty gate tapes to know there are teams out there that will target injuries to take a guy out.

That being the case, he is actually more at risk being a traditional drop back QB. Its alot easier to try and target an injured area if the target is relatively stationary.
