ESPN reported that A-Rod will appeal and that the appeal process could take up to 45 days.
That would hurt Cruz worse. I think they will expedite it though. They want their man, and will pull out all the stop to get him.

So if someone makes the smartest business decision, what reason do they use to justify it? Increasing profit. He stands to make more money next year as a free agent by taking his suspension and getting it out of the way. Therefore, his decision is ultimately motivated by making more money next year. I'm not blaming him for the decision, merely making the point that it all boils down to getting a bigger contract. I seriously doubt he was encouraged one way or the other by the team.

Personally, I don't know any of the inside information, and I am not going to claim to. I'm sure money is important to him but what you are doing is logically flawed. You are suggesting since he reacted to situation A with reaction C, that he will also react to situation B (a different situation) with the same reaction C. Although, it is a possibly that this could occur, reactions from situation A do not correlate to situation B.

forgive me for finding cruz very selfish here and abandoning his team during a pennant chase. yes, yes, yes, i know it will affect his free agent status. but, i would feel the rangers would be willing to compensate him handsomely in the offseason. i wont no part of him coming back potentially if the rangers make the postseason. cut ties with him entirely and deuces bitch! i hope he will be booed if/when he returns to play in BBIA.

So anyone else feel the game would be better served by expanding replay and disciplining the umpires more than they are by "cleaning up the game"?

I don't believe using PEDs is cheating at all. So boom mind blown. Circumstantial evidence can be ample, but it's still circumstantial. Throwing him under the bus, because he gets suspended is petulant.

I don't think anyone here is throwing Cruz under the bus. He dove under the bus. We do not know all the investigative facts. The news investigation showed records. I am sure MLB dug deeper and found texts, phone numbers, emails all directed back to the accused. If Cruz bought the PEDs and never used them, he is still in violation of the CBA and MLB rules.

I wonder if they are going to put an asterisk * next to our AL pennants. Right now our 25 got to stay focused & kick a** on those angels. Nelly we'll miss you and I for one will welcome him back. Colon-oscopy came back & helped his a's.

lol. yeah, but in the grand scheme of things he's putting himself before his team! just like melky did last year with giants and they kicked his ass to the curb. loyalty can be rewarded, and cruz couldve proved his loyalty and i promise the rangers would make him a very nice offer compared to his potential no suspension looming free agent market on the other hand

From the article:

Nelson Cruz informed the Texas Rangers on Monday that he will accept his 50-game suspension, a move that stunned Rangers' officials, a person with direct knowledge of the decision told USA TODAY Sports.

Rangers officials were blindsided by the news, only learning of Cruz's decision Monday morning, hours before MLB was set to announce its discipline in the Biogenesis matter. They struggled to land a potential replacement for Cruz at the July 31 non-waivers trade deadline, and now will attempt to add depth by making a waiver trade before Aug. 31, a process that guarantees little.

Well the Giants won the WS, if the Rangers do this year, I won't give a damn what Cruz did/does.

nightengale wrote this, and goes to prove my point! if he wasnt ever intending on appealing then he couldve at least been honest and told J.D. straight up and maybe he pulls the trigger on something at the trade deadline he ultimatley decided not too because he was informed otherwise by cruz! instead, cruz puts his team in a horrible bind. screw cruz! i hope to never see him in a rangers uni again!

I do. I may have a fringe opinion on this, but in this day and age home runs and high scores are more likely to drive attendance than anything, so I say just let anyone and everyone take whatever they want.

Statement by Cruz

“I have been notified by the Commissioner of Major League Baseball that I have been suspended for 50 games for violation of the Joint Drug Agreement,” Cruz said in a statement. “I have decided to accept this suspension and not exercise my rights under the Basic Agreement to appeal. From November, 2011 to January, 2012, I was seriously ill with a gastrointestinal infection, helicobacter pylori, which went undiagnosed for over a month. By the time I was properly diagnosed and treated, I had lost 40 pounds. Just weeks before I was to report to spring training in 2012, I was unsure whether I would be physically able to play. Faced with this situation, I made an error in judgment that I deeply regret, and I accept full responsibility for that error. I should have handled the situation differently, and my illness was no excuse. I am thankful for the unwavering support of my family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time. I look forward to regaining the trust and respect of the Rangers organization, my teammates, and the great Rangers’ fans, and I am grateful for the opportunity to rejoin the team for the playoffs.”
