OT: Direct TV genie

Yea, I wasnt good for a free upgrade until January. BUt I worked that out too, I reuped my contract and got the genie for free and a free mini client. One thing I will mention though is every mini client takes away a recording channel from your genie unless you are actually watching what you are recording. HD DVR has 2 tuners, so you can watch one thing, record one thing. Or record two things as long as you are actually watching one of them.

Genie has 5 tuners and works the same way. You can record up to five, as long as you are actually watching one of those five.

I have one HD DVR and a Genie, plus one HD Reciever. So I can record 7 and my wife can still watch what she wants on Sundays in the bedroom.

Yeah! The DirecTV rep told me that you could record 7 if you had another DVR. Otherwise, it would be just five. I look forward to doing that, once I get it. Too bad, it will be on Week 11.

You couldn't talk them into allowing the upgrade sooner? It's been a while since I've had DirecTV, but I remember that if I ever slightly threatened to cancel anything, they would give in and give me what I asked for. If you haven't done it already, you should try it!

Depends on if he has completed his initial contract. Its all based on contract anniversary date with them. My initial was up, but I wasnt due for a free upgrade until 01/2014. So I reuped my contract which to me was no big deal cause its not like Im going to switch to Brightsucks any time soon.

Ah, I see, that makes sense. My negotiating was more for programming.

Well, I'll be moving at the end of this month. Upon telling them that I was moving, I was offered a moving special, which includes a free Genie and a discount on my early renewal for Sunday Ticket. With all of this, my contract was renewed, which is fine. I got with DirecTV, since last year and I love it.
