The Warriors are getting very hefty trade exceptions back from the trade with Utah and Denver. It's unclear what the large exception is (it's either 11m or 9m) but the smaller one is for 4m. Lacob has said Bob has the go-ahead to shop the exceptions and if it puts the Warriors in the tax, it's not a problem.

They could use these exceptions to either acquire a player who teams are looking to sell on during the season, or could even help to alleviate teams tax problems and net us some picks.

Any targets out there that interest anyone?

They don't get an exception back from Denver. I think they used the RJeff exception on Iguodola.

MT2 just reported he got confirmation that the Warriors have two TPE's one for 11M and one for 4M.

If Myers somehow manages to get AK47 for 4 million, I'll run down to the new stadium site and single handly start ripping out the concrete and building the statue.

AK would bring some great depth. I'm happy with the back court and the front court. The only use I could see beyond signing someone like AK47 or Dominic McGuire is to couple it with someone from the starting 5 (other than the obvious talents) to try to upgrade somewhere. However, that doesn't seem viable to me, so bring back Jamison? :)

Unfortunately AK is Brooklyn bound. Signed a 2 year 3.1M deal.

That's a good fit, too. It looks like those exemptions can go farther than I thought. If AK can be had for that amount, is it possible to swoop in and grab Pekovic or Gerald Henderson? Is that stupid with JO and Klay or Harrison already on the bench? They are probably going to get a good amount of money for 20-25 minutes per night, and deserve to be somewhere that they can get 30-35.

So he went to the Nets for 3.1 mil and we couldn't beat that offer? :lame:

Exceptions can't be used to sign free agents - they can only be used to absorb players via trade, and I don't know if a sign-and-trade-into-an-exception is allowable.

Kirilenko for $3M is a steal. Considering he turned down a $10M option year at Minnesota, it shows he either hated it there, or he's getting something, somehow, from New Jersey and Prokhorov that isn't showing in that $3M. (And it is possible that that "something" is simply the pride of helping a fellow Russian succeed.) A few days ago I made a trade suggestion on the ESPN board (before Sacramento signed Landry) that would have been Lee for Patterson + any pick we could get, then using the excess $10M in cap space to sign Kirilenko and Collison. As it turned out, Kirilenko and Collison signed with their new teams for a combined $5M, so that would have been easy for the Warriors to afford (originally I was concerned about that). I'm still not convinced that that wouldn't have been a better deal than staying with Lee - and as it turned out, we probably could still have signed somebody else.

Ah well, we'll never know.

I think we should hold the TPEs at this point unless we have an obvious deal that comes to us. As the season goes on, some teams will suck and want to dump salary, and we should see what opportunities arise in January and February as we approach the trade deadline. We should be able to get assets at that point, in the form of players and potentially draft picks for taking somebody's salary off their hands.

Not a bad idea -I like your way of thinking. With the moves the Dubbs have made up til today, I would also be fine with just letting this current roster play out and see what comes up during the trade deadline. I know there has been mention of Iggy playing backup PG/ Point forward with this team, but I'd like to have another small guard with playmaking ability on this team. Other than that, this team just have to have some luck on their side with the injury department and having coach MJ with a year of more seasoning know how to spread the minutes around with better judgement.

When Ezeli comes back, you can argue the Warriors can go 9-11 players deep on this roster.

Agree Chuck, I think the Warriors don't need to be over aggressive right now. Depth is pretty good and who knows who get hurt or who is available, better to start the season and see how things play out.

The first game is tomorrow, right? That's not too long of a tumb-twiddling session

Not if the thumb-twiddling picks right back up from August to October! ;) At least, we'll be able to talk about how well Bazemore and Draymond played. :)

Bump, getting back to basketball discussion and less of the name calling in the other thread,

Most likely options for our Trade Exceptions?

1) Andre Miller
2) Fill in the blank low post threat

Very unlikely, Dubs somehow steal Asik from HOU?

This.

Two words: Andre Miller

He's got two years left on his deal (roughly 2.5MM more this season and 4.6MM next) and I could see Denver looking to dump salary.

Assuming Festus comes back healthy that would leave a second string of:

C - Ezeli
PF - O'Neal
SF - Green
SG - Barnes
PG - Miller

I weep for the rest of the NBA if that happens.

Asik has formally requested a trade, and is pissing off the management in Houston..... that's why he's sitting at this point. To me it seems inevitable that he will get traded, but not for nothing. Houston is most likely going to try to get a starting-level PF out of the deal, as that's their biggest roster hole. They're not just going to salary dump him, he's got too much value (and interest around the league). No possibility the Warriors are in contention for him, particularly when you also consider that it looks like the Warriors and Rockets are going to be fighting for playoff seeding. No way would Houston do something which would improve our roster.

I know everybody wants to say "Andre Miller" as the answer to this question, but I'm skeptical that Denver is going to let him go. They're not over the tax line, they've had a decent start (4-4), just got Wilson Chandler back, will be getting Gallinari back at some point...... net of it being that I think they're going to be in the mix for a playoff spot. What would be their motivation for letting Miller go cheaply? I don't see it unless their season goes down the drain, which I don't expect to happen.

I don't have the original report, but I saw on Twitter that Mark Spears of Yahoo, who is usually pretty reliable, has reported that the Warriors are looking to add somebody to the team. Not sure if that would mean a signing or doing some kind of trade. My guess, for what it's worth - if they add somebody to the roster, it's not going to be a PG, it's going to be somebody who can get some points inside. 4 names that aren't on anybody's roster and could be considered: Ivan Johnson (playing in China), Drew Gooden, Ike Diogu, and Tyrus Thomas.

My only counter to that CD is DEN doesn't really know what they are doing.

1) Fire the Coach of the year Karl after he makes it to the 2nd round of the playoffs

2) They have a bunch of their cap tied up in McGee/Lawson/Galinari

3) Give a team within their division their best players , thank you DEN!

Mcgee is a headcase, Galiniari is a talented player (when he isn't injured), Lawson seems to be a nice player, but he needs more help. Hickson is a nice energy player up there, but that's basically it.

Anyone really see them making it past the 1st round of the playoffs this year?

Not really sure why DEN would trade him, other than for the roster space I suppose, I would offer a
2nd round pick in '15, or even '16 if we still had it. They have Nate Robinson to play the back up Point at this moment anyway.
